I have an early generation garmin etrex but am considering upgrading and given the market now, the options are endless. Basically my etrex now just gives me a bearing to my spot which I then follow with my compass. Nothing wrong with it but am going to Alaska next September and would think one with an appropriate map overlay would be really helpful on my float. Any recommendations?

Any of the Garmin series 450 or higher I have used them all, currently have the rino 650's and a Garmin oregon 650t, I wouldn't get anything under the 450, the screens don't show well in the sun

Nuther Garmin Oregon fan here, I use the maps from huntinggpsmaps.com that show private property, state and federal lands, etc in topicals. Very nice to to be able to skirt legally through those narrow fingers of public land between a maze of ranches.
