"T" stands for topo and those come preinstalled with a topo map for all of the US including alaska and hawaii.

pretty sure the t is for 100k topo maps pre installed. The 24k topo maps have a lot more detail though. I like the thought of having the 100k pre loaded, but wouldn't want to use them for detailed hiking hunting scouting, etc. I haven't tried the 3d view on my Montana yet, but I suppose the 100k pre loaded maps are probably good for that purpose. Definitly not a necessity..just another nice to have thing.
