The features and aspects of a touch screen gps haven't appealed to me. So I've been considering only non-touch screen models and I really like the reviews of the Garmin 62 series, particularly the 62 STC. Does anyone use this model or any of the 62 series?

I did some hard research and ended up going with the oregon 650t. Touch but I will say it was a tough decision. The 62 is a rugged gps and has some great features, I know several folks that have them and they are great.. I used to think the camera was silly but last year when taking a few dicy trails in the mountains I marked the location and snapped a pic. It was nice when I came back through and had that pic to find the right trail. The pre loaded maps are so so but you can add maps or use a card in the back. I would also check into the new one that just came out. The 64 series. They have something different with satellites but I am honesty not up to speed on what it all means.. But you can't go wrong with the 62stc

I hear ya, I was in the same place a couple years ago. I had an older style gps and didn't use it much. It was more for backup. But i liked the idea of a touch screen. I ended up buying a used Oregon in case I didn't like it. I've been very surprised how much I enjoy having a GPS and especially the touch screen. I use it a LOT more and the only real difference is the functionality of the screen. Topo maps navigation are great. I wish the technology was as good as my iPhone. I use it a lot more than I thought

As for the camera, I thought it was a waste of technology. I have better point and shoot cameras, plus the camera on my phone. So why carry another one?. But again, as I used my gps and marked tons of trails, water holes, scrapes, rubs, berry patches, animal sightings, areas with a lot of droppings, where I put trail cameras, etc...then I really wish I had a camera to take photos with the lat/long. I forget which location is which, but if I saw a photo I would know exactly. The camera would really help. My next one will have that feature and plot it on a map when I download it to a computer. So handy, especially when it's a year later and heading back into an area.

I have a 62, and IMO it is a great unit. Lots of capability, connects fast to satellites, works great in thick timber....etc. With that said, I use my foretrex way more. Why, well all I really use a GPS for is too find my way back to point whatever. The foretrex does this just as good, but is far cheaper, weighs a 1/3 of the weight, and IMO is more user friendly. I'm sure YMMV, but this is my experience. If you're looking for lots of bells and whistles, then yes the 62 is a great unit. I don't like touch screens either, even though I just typed this one on....

No experience with the 62, and I just went with a new 450T, so I've got a 76S (which is a non-touch) with map software CD's, external antenna and extras for sale...cheap.

I also prefer a non touch screen. I have a 62 csx that I've used pretty hard for three years and it's never failed me. I also have a newer 62 s no issues with it either.

For a no nonsense, tough as hell unit the 62 series is great. The new 64 series will have a new antenna/satellite relationship that will hook up to satellites 20% faster. Additionally, the new 64 series has the capability of being paired with an apple device and Basecamp mobile for some very cool additional features.
