I'm shopping for a GPS fence system for our new dog. Halo has the subscription, Spoton is more expensive with no subscription. Any other systems out there I should consider? $650-$1000 for a system is a lot of coin to spend without serious consideration. we have a large yard in the country, but also would want to use it at other locations

Thanks, guys!

I planned to use (2) PetSafe stay n play systems to cover a large area for our dog. He doesn't wander off like previous dog so I'm selling them if you're interested.

i have the dogtra pathfinder 2. I like it so far. you are welcome to PM me if you have questions about that model.

Not familiar with the Halo system or what GPS system they run off of.
We utilize a couple of different GPS systems and can get within 5/100 for accuracy, but even that system goes awol when under a canopy, close to buildings.....
If it's true GPS they must advertise some limitations.

The theory is there, techology is not quite from my research. I will say what turned me away was the amount of folks selling them on fb vs spot on. Although I think halo has a much larger market share. Most folks I've talked were unimpressed with halo. Spot on was overall liked better. Success also depends on the dog and it's training and stubbornness. Both collars require daily charging which sucks

We've been using a Petsafe wireless fence for 10 years with no complaints.

3 dogs that add up to about 500 lbs., and they know their limits.

We use the Invisible Fence brand. Zero complaints. 2 GSP's and a Boston Terrier. They won't even get close to the boundary. If you out a leash on them they start dragging before they even get toned. It works great. Collars need charged every few days we have a spare battery for each one. Just swap them out every couple days.

I looked into them, and realized it was way to expensive. I have a petsafe 1/2 acre and a 110 lb Rottweiler. He knows exactly how far he can go, and with the collar off he still knows. He has escaped twice, but both times were my fault as I didn't swap the collar battery and it was dead. They are dirt cheap and last about a month. I'm gone for 12 hrs at a time and he just hangs out. Has free roam of my entire yard, driveway and porch.

I’ve got the wire model and it’s been excellent, 3 dogs and they stay in, but I only have an acre.

As a pathfinder 2 owner, I would probably get something else. The UI is terrible
I Find the UI satisfactory. Not great but just ok. Now the notification esp the default ones. They make me want to smash the device. How many times do i meed to click i dont want to mark the truck when i open the program?

I’ve had the wired Invisible Fence on an acre plus for the last 25 years for the beagles I’ve had. Zero complaints. Highly recommend.

Echo what has been mentioned above. But also depends on the dog. PetSafe wireless has been great and relatively inexpensive. Comparatively. Trained two maybe three time with it on my GSP nearly 10 years ago, and to this day she won't go near the boundary with a collar on.
My kids lab is a different story. That dogs wears a Halo and that has worked relatively well also. Training curve has been a little larger with that one, but its the dog not the collar.
(could also be the trainer, not the dog:unsure:)

Resurrection of an old thread. We have a snotty Airedale terrier she can be a handful. Currently she has about 1/4 acre fenced in (physical fence) area where we have a pool/ patio etc…. But she likes to destroy and dig things. Frustrating.

I cleared some additional land and was thinking of the buried wire system for her. Very intelligent dog for sure. She does respond well to general e collar use. I have some concerns trusting the containment systems, party because she is extremely territorial and I’m nervous about her busting through the system and going after neighbors walking their dogs. She thinks she owns the entire neighborhood 🤷🏻‍♂️

My daughter was just talking this weekend about the new updated version, and you can get like those air tabs that have a 5' radius that you can put in your flowerbeds etc. to keep the dog out.
