Got scammed

I already had a crazy password, but i just enabled 2fa on my account.

lately i've been going with facetime calls...even when dealing with a legit looking profile with good feedback

MFA is already an option on Rokslide. It also requires you to re-login every 30 days also. Just enable it.

As much as I hate MFA (I work in a safety senitive industry), I just enabled it on RS just because of the BS with scammers. Might be nice to have it so that in order to post or reply in the classifieds or send a P.M. you must have MFA activated.

If you guys aren't using a password manager, you should be. I'd recommend BitWarden even though it is not what I use...I'm in one of those situations where I recognize it is probably better than what I have, but not so much that it's worth the hassle of switching. I use SafeInCloud.

Good ones will store unlimited passwords across multiple devices. They can often autofill in your browser on PC, mobile, and tablet. They can generate extremely secure passwords and store them using encrypted backups. They can alert you to security risks such as having weak, shared, or compromised passwords.

Because they autofill on every device you own, it is no problem to have extremely complex passwords and there's no pressure to remember them which is one of the biggest reasons people have simple passwords that they use for anything and everything. I don't have to remember anything because I just hit ctrl + shift + 1 on my PC or use my fingerprint on my mobile devices and the app handles the rest.

For example, I just generated a password from each category:

4F(32ta5CLE*Ri2s1&*9m5.7xIBB11a5FJgnETH_f(e67AU39dnp9w7z83C%\Kty

I'd wager most hackers targeting forum classifieds aren't using sophisticated enough software or spending enough time "cracking" to break into an account with a password like that and a strong/long password alone will probably keep your account secure.

I’m impressed folks are so optimistic that they won’t get scammed. In college I knew an international student from an eastern block country and he cheated, misrepresented himself, and outright lied every chance he had. When pressed about it, he explained corruption is not seen as a bad thing in his country, which seems to be not that far off base, and Americans are easy targets because they believe anything based on how convincing you look and sound. He was a good looking guy with very good English - if working for a corrupt governmental oil company didn’t work out, he is probably making good money running a ring of teenagers pretending to sell things online.

Makes total sense with the uptick in scams that seems to be happening.

We let millions of foreign scam talent in the southern border the last couple years….

Glad it worked out for you. Anymore something has to be a really good deal in the classifieds to even take the risk.

I mention “government” and “corrupt” in the same post and get a conservative BOT talking about immigration. Lol

Get a phone number and start a text conversation, google phone number

Reverse image search

Look at seller history and make sure he has recent AND consistent posts and there’s not a significant lapse in posts that would indicate an account that is inactive.

Look at recent sales and make sure they were completed

If there is any doubt, require a FaceTime of seller and product.
Well reverse image search came back good, and everything else feels legit so I will be moving forward. Thanks for the tips.
