Got scammed

They are getting better and better scamming people, who knows how hard AI will make fake videos and pictures to decipher and sort from the real deal.

Snipers hide logs you out every 30 days and you have to sign back in with 2 authentication. I’m not sure that’s the answer, but these guys getting their accounts hacked that have a password that says “rokslide123” are part of the problem.

I was getting ready to buy a scope listed here last week and the member noticed that his account had been hacked… he stepped back in and sent me a notice that he had been hacked and stopped the transaction. This isn’t just happening with accounts that have been idle… this guy was an active member and got hacked. Seems someone is definitely targeting this forum. 😖
Gone are the days of trying to jump on a good deal… now the guy who tries to get “first dibs” just gets robbed.

That would certainly seem to help with matters if the issue is scammers hacking current accounts. In this day and age, 2FA is basically an essential, along with requiring complex passwords.

I didn't get scammed in my most recent purchase off of here, but there was some weird stuff going on. PM'd the seller and replied in the thread, then received an email at the email address I use for this account from someone claiming to be the seller (it was pretty obvious it was a scammer, they had misspelled the sellers username and they couldn't answer the questions I had PM'd the real seller). Confirmed with the seller that he hadn't tried emailing me, so it was definitely a scammer.

I don't buy on forums, just too much risk.
I used to years ago but only with long standing members that posted across other forums not just classifieds. These days the scammers and hackers are smarter than me so I only buy from businesses I know are legit. I might buy off a forum ifs its small inexpensive item for up to $50 thatI wont get hurt too bad if I get scammed. Not worth the saving on big ticket items. One scam on a big ticket item and your out every bit of savings you got in years. I watch good sales being offered from legit businesses.

So what did the bank say?

If you're paying PayPal for using a card for F&F anyway I don't see why you wouldn't use G&S and add the fees. You paid $50 in fees to help the scammer when the G&S fees would have been $21.49. Member standing aside, you're always sending money to a stranger on the internet when you're buying on forums.

It's pretty obvious what's going on here.

Remember all those threads where we made fun of Bigfoot and insisted he didn't exist? Ya, me too, and now he's getting back at us.

I messaged with the same guy about that chassis. He ghosted me as soon as I insisted on a video call.

Did you report that to a moderator? Or post it in the thread?

I think relaxing the rules in the classifieds to allow for some conversation would be a good thing. Maybe it's allowed, I know we can't comment on price, but when a member sees red flags they should be able to say something and should. If the seller is legit that shouldn't bother them.

I haven't been spending as much time in the classifieds as I once did, but think it's a shame it's being impacted to such a degree. It's been a great resource for me and I hope it can continue to be for others.

PayPal wouldn’t help with a rifle stock. Most likely just get your account locked…
