Got a tikka t3x SL and need some advice.

Hey all. I got my tikka t3x SL in 6.5 today and started putting it together. It weighed in at 6.2 lbs with an empty mag. I bought both the sportmatch mounts in both high and regular just to make sure I would have one that worked. I ended up using the regular, but there is almost no space between the rifle and barrel. A regular piece of paper is too big to slide between the scope and barrel but a thin receipt size paper slides in fine. With only a small amount of gap cause any problems when the barrel heats up? Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

Probably will be fine but I like to be able to slide a business card underneath personally. If it were me, I'd probably go a little higher (or change to a smaller objective scope if worried about cheek/head position).

I can see the white background in the picture in between the two, I'd leave it. Otherwise scoot it forward 1/32".

Thanks for the input. The scope is a sig bdx 6.5-20x52. The height is perfect for my eye position which is why I am hesitant to use the high mounts I already bought. I guess I’ll move it forward if it touches after firing at the range. Hunting season here starts on Saturday so I am hoping to hit the range tomorrow. I am also hoping that the Javelin bipod I ordered arrives before the start of the season.

I have another question for you guys. Does anyone know where I can get scope covers that will thread into the sig 52mm objective lens? I can’t seem to find any that fit.

Too close for me. A scope that big is way unnecessary.

If you find a scope cover I doubt you have enough room to slide it on the objective end.

Update. I think I will try using the high mounts so I can move the scope a little further back to get better eye relief and add enough clearance to install the defender scope caps that I ordered last week. Hopefully the my cheek eye height will still work.
Also wondering why I’m receiving feedback that my scope is really big? It’s only a 52mm with about a 14.5” overall length and I’ve seen some rather large 56mm scopes with long sunshades. I actually chose the scope based on some of the threads about leupold on this site. I typically use leupold on all of my rifles, but the threads on here made me want to try something different. I wanted to try out the Sig Bdx system a try since the pixels on my leupold range finder decided to start disappearing. The tech behind the bdx sounds perfect for hunting. Hopefully I get to field test to this season. Thanks for all the input.

It’s a 6lb rifle with a 2lb scope. A 16-19 oz 42/44 mm scope is probably what most of us would use. But hey it’s your rifle...

Agreed, buying a super lite and putting on a 2lb scope does sound sillly, but according to sig (I should have weighed it mysel) the 4.5-15x44mm weighs 23.2 oz and the 6.5-20x52mm weighs 25.9oz. Since I wanted to try out the bdx system, I think I would have ended up pretty heavy anyway. 2.7oz penalty for more zoom seemed worth it at the time, but not sure now that I have to use the higher mounts.

Don't worry about the scope weight if that's what you want. An extra 8 ounces isn't going to matter if that's what you want to shoot. Weight is subjective. I have a 10.5 pound Ruger Predator in 6.5CM and that's what I have my kids and wife shoot because it kicks less than my other 8 pound rifle.

Just check the regulations before using the BDX system to hunt. It is not legal in a couple states.

Since I wanted to try out the bdx system, I think I would have ended up pretty heavy anyway.

Just wanted to give you guys an update. I ended up going with the higher sportsmatch rings so I could scoot the scope back for better eye relief. I bought an extra stock from a forum member and had it dipped.
