Which do you use and why?

I hear a lot about GTX boots leaking after a while, probably due to the seams loosening up through use and the water getting through. Have you had problems with GTX leaking on your boots?

Does boot wax like SnoSeal or other wax based products work well for you? How often do you need to appl them?

Thanks in advance folks. Also, please check out my poll on http://www.rokslide.com/forums/showthread.php?34849-What-boot-do-you-wear-for-the-moutains and add your thoughts on which brand you wear.

I buy gtx but use boot sealer obenhauf brand. I get about a year maybe 2 out of gtx.
Fo r me nothing beats a good sealer/conditioner for leather . I also have a pair of Cordura boots I sprayed never wet on. this will be the first year , good so far time will tell.

I wax/treat all my boots. As much to protect the leather as it is to seal the water out. I use several brands to treat boots.

I have given up on goretex boots. They are too hot, dry too slow and leak eventually. A good leather boot waxed up has been much better for me.

Just to clarify are we not talking about leather boots with gortex liners or booties, If so do you not want the leather to breath, I would think a petroleum based treatment would not be best. Other wise your defeating the purpose of the gortex liners.

Some waxes work with goretex. Ive used obenaufs for the past few years. They were recommended by a firecrew buddy. On a leather boot with a goretex liner it works almost as good as rubber boots for water proofing but no sweaty feet.
