I had one cone up on me from behind, I didn't hear it. I heard leaves crunching rapidly, I thought this is it....

Yeah, the modern ones are quiet. I had two utes come by me before daylight on a paved portion with gravel, one on an e and pulling the other one on his bike like a lazy m'fer. If they hadn't had a headlight on, I wouldn't have known they were about until they were on top of me. We got another pair of dimwits that one pulls the other in a game cart.

That must look… cute.

Looks like an Outfitting business with a special use permit from the Forest Service, no? I mean they're making a mess in the mud which sucks, but probably the only outfitter in the area. I don't think its really a good comparison to legalizing e-bikes.

EDIT - I don't know what the regs are but outfitter or not, they are not practicing "leave no trace" to say the least. I would like to see that mess ticketed, but again, I don't get the comparison to legalizing e-bikes.
They just have to have it 100% clean when done and all posts removed and placed in a natural state, this is an outfitter camp but it is very similar to most outfitters setups.

That was neat. They tried pretty hard to elicit a FOMO response. Hurry and buy our $8k bike so this guy can’t beat you there! We bet the laws will change… 😂

I like how they made sure to get a shot of a closed gate at the beginning. Then proceeded to film on a road that was either open to motorized traffic or on private property. My guess is private property because they also filmed him riding off the road, which would get you a fine on USFS.

I got a Bakcou Mule 1000 for doing ADC work on ranches and for killing predators I got say, they are better. Catching dogs in the open all the time as I silently move through the property. They don't react to a bike. Lay the rifle on the seat and squeeze. No caller needed. The trailer was a mistake though...easier to wear a pack than trailer it.bikeandtruck1.JPGbikeload2.JPGbikeonrack1.JPGbikeonrack1.JPGbikerack2.JPG

That sounds like a great way to hunt song dogs. I honestly would like to have one for exploring the desert & such. I just have a tool for that use already, and it’s paid for (BMW F800GS).

Lol... are you serious? Do you know anything about ebikes? You think a dirt bike motor and an ebike motor are even remotely comparable? If that's where you're coming from you are not worth responding to.

You need to do some reading on things before commenting. Lots of info out there for you to educate yourself.

Just because we disagree with you, doesn't mean the argument is less educated. You should educate yourself on the word elitist that you threw around first.

To be fair, I don't think he mentioned dirtbikes--he said gas motors ON A BIKE. Perhaps you don't have the middle class urban outdoorsman where you live, but they love them a bicycle with a gas engine. Noisy as hell and they routinely ride them on the streets here illegally. While I've not encountered anyone here (yet) using one in a hunting environment, nothing would surprise me in this regard.

We have an ebike problem where I am, now. Let USFS open it up and let's see where it goes. My bet--problems will abound. But, I certainly could be wrong.

When ignorant statements are made in going to call them exactly as I see them.

When you don't know what you are talking about you have two options: educate yourself, or make ignorant statements. If you choose the second option get ready to be called out.

I thought about getting one of those little motors for my bike to get around town. They are pretty cheap and would save a fortune on gas currently.

Until I can fly out in my personal drone (I prefer "flying car" of Popular Mechanics of old), I'll walk. Drones are coming. Won't stop them if ebikes make it. Much less harm to nature.

Heck, put a gun and grapple on your drone and set your azz at the house and hunt.
Hrmm. Who needs to cross a corner or use an e-bike?

I was in Montana last November walking down a gated trail (no motorized) in the dark of the morning before sunup. Suddenly happened to look behind me and slowly here came a floating light, no sound. I stood off to the side and an ebike came by. He saw me when he got along side and increased speed. I think he knew he was illegal, not much he could do about it. I had parked at a different nearby gate and cut across so he didn't know anyone was likely on that trail. I rarely use a flashlight when I can walk without one. By the time I got to where I was going I was sweated up a little, I'm sure he was dry as a bone.

Were you able to get any info (license plate on his truck) or pics? Sounds like not. I’d go out of my way and turn him in if possible. I think the only things these idiots understand is pain and money. It’s not legal to administer pain.

Remember those old gas mopeds with pedals? Should they be allowed on non-motorized trails, too?

Not all ebikes are created equal. I'd argue that a 1000 watt-plus, 60-70 pound bike with a top speed of 35 mph is in no way a bicycle. It's an electric dirtbike. Keep it on motorized trails, plain and simple. Honestly, there should be no argument about this, period. Here, the pedals are basically vestigial appendages...nearly as useless as nipples on a dude.

By the same token, if it is primarily a pedal bike with a small motor meant for assist on hills, I can see the the gray area.

I can’t see the gray area. A motor is a motor. Even if it’s a small motor.

Does this count?!?! Grunt

Jokes aside I think a motor is a motor.

We got a lot of weird looks for walking into the place we were hunting last year. Dirt bikes were the norm.
