Good Axis replacement arrow

I don't think there's anything wrong with stock Easton 16 gr aluminum HIT's. The strength of the HIT "system" comes more from the carbon shaft surrounding the HIT than from the HIT itself.

The HIT design is patented, and they're only made by Easton, Iron Will, and Ethics Archery. Easton offers 16 gr aluminum and 50/75 gr brass versions. IW and Ethics have stainless steel versions up to 100-150 gr. I would choose the cheapest option that got me closest to my desired total arrow weight.

Thanks for the help dude. I’m leaning towards keeping the Axis, using the 16gn insert, and putting 10gn iron will collars over. That will essentially keep my arrow weight exactly the same as it is now (+1 gn) and I can modify the new shafts so that they’re the same length as my current arrows so I can keep shooting those as well.

Look into Easton sonic 6.0. So far I have been enjoying shooting them.

Been working on these hypothetical builds all day: I'm a 28.5 inch draw and shoot about 70 pounds. I currently shoot a 28.75 (carbon to end of outsert) Easton Axis 300 with a 125g head and 25g Easton aluminum outsert (total of 150g up front) with a four fletch AAE max stealth. Total arrow weight is roughly 502g. Looking to make changes because the aluminum outsert sucks and doesn't protect my arrow at all. Trying to not go much heavier in total arrow weight as well, I only shoot roughly 69-72 pounds. Here are some options I cooked up for preserving a slightly heavier arrow with potentially better protection/toughness and FOC:

1) Black Eagle Rampage (300 spine)
-28.75 or 29 from carbon to carbon/end of collar
-125g head, 50g brass HIT insert, 10g Iron Will Collar (Total of 185 grains up front)
-X nock, 4 fletch AAE max stealth (I heard stock Rampage nocks/pins suck)
-Roughly 480 grains and 14% FOC
-About $235/dozen or $19.50/arrow (for components and shafts, excluding fletching)


2) Black Eagle Rampage (300 spine)
-28.75 or 29 from carbon to carbon/end of collar
-125g head, 25 grain Ethics HIT insert, 25 Iron Will Collar (Total of 175 grains up front)
-X nock, 4 fletch AAE max stealth (I heard stock Rampage nocks/pins suck)
-Roughly 470 grains and 13% FOC
-About $250/dozen or $20.83/arrow (for components and shafts, excluding fletching)


3) Easton Axis (300 Spine, very similar to current setup but potentially more durable than an aluminum outsert)
-28.75 or 29 from carbon to carbon/end of collar
-125g head, 16g aluminum HIT insert, 10g Iron Will Collar (Total of 151 grains up front)
-X nock, 4 fletch AAE max stealth
-Roughly 503 grains and 10% FOC
-About $202/dozen or $16.83/arrow (for components and shafts, excluding fletching)


With the heavier Black Eagle setup I'd probably be on the edge of overspined, but I think it would be okay. I don't want to load up the front too much because then I'd have to spine down to a 250 and it would have the same GPI as a 300 spine axis, which defeats the purpose... maybe one of you can tell me if you think I'd be underspined with the heavier black eagle. I'm really liking the look of this setup though.

Any of those 3 should be fine spine-wise. Assuming typical flagship bow specs (340 fps IBO/30" ATA/6" BH/85% LO) at 70# DW/28.5" DL, qSpine says those arrows range from .008" weak to .004" stiff, aka nearly "optimal."

I have no firsthand experience with them, but I have heard unflattering comments from folks whose opinions I value about the durability of Rampages. I'll soon be building (or "assembling" as some adamantly prefer) 5mm Axis arrows very similar to your option #3 for elk and deer hunting this fall.

Have you considered the sirius apollo?
My buddy typically shoots axis but bought a dozen apollo to try. I like the ethics components it comes with, and there are so 10% off codes floating around that make the cost a bit more tolerable.

I ordered some orions to try. I have a 30.5 draw length and finding a 250 spine with lower gpi in 5 or 6mm was a challenge.

On my 60lb bow I shoot 300 spine rampage arrows and really like em.

Appreciate your thoughtful responses on this thread- I think I'm going to stick with the axis. Should work if I increase draw weight as well. I can group extremely well with a very similar axis setup out to 90 yards as it stands, so this may be a "if it ain't broke..." situation. Tried and true.

I like my rampages, 50 gr. brass, 100 gr bh, 25 gr collar.

If I didn't already have a ton of 100 gr heads I'd probably do a regular insert, 125 gr head and 25 gr collar

I'm a big fan of the Rampage coming from Axis. I use the 75gr brass HIT inserts, no collars.

I'm gonna go against the grain . I shoot sirius Apollos with the BE 55 grain stainless outsert.
I'm not a fan of rampage shafts.. I had one splinter on a leg bone hit on a big hog..
The Apollos with the halfout has been more durable for me than the hit with collar.. plus it's cheaper ..

I stayed with Axis, the stock 16 grain aluminum HIT, and a 10 grain IW collar. Total weight with a 4 fletch AAE max stealth and 125 grain head is 505 grains. These things are phenomenal. I cannot believe how tough they are. I have yet to break one with a collar and a HIT, compared to the fragile aluminum half outs I used. The weight is a touch heavier than I probably would like but I can get over 100 yards on my sight tape. Probably won’t be swapping these out anytime soon. If I do, it would be to go to a 4mm Axis Long Range.

If you like the Axis arrow the Victory RIP TKO's are like the Axis on steroids! Way more durable and lighter, my 300 spine TKO's are 500gr with 100gr IW HITS, 25gr IW Collars and 100gr heads.

I’ve thought about it but I’m sticking with Easton- I like that they’re made in the USA, have a good price point, and are tough as heck. Victory makes a great arrow though.
