I’ve been researching a new lightweight rifle, it wasn’t in a big rush as I haven’t drawn a tag yet (Kodiak man goat). I was looking hard at weatherby backcountry guide in 280 AI, or a Kimber Mountain ascent. I was in our local shop and they had an X bolt in the rack. I really liked the tang safety and bolt lock. I’m not sure I had picked a browning rifle in years.
So the x bolt eliminated my biggest pet leave, non locking bolts. I always seem to knock the bolt open when I have the rifle slung and the bolt moving around just spits ammo out. I started researching to see how much they weighed, and somehow stumbled onto a sale Cabela’s in Utah had (I never look for anything there anymore). Ended up with a X bolt pro McMillan SPR for $2200 in 6.8 western.
It’s a little heavier than I was thinking I wanted but I think the extra weight will help with shoot ability. I’ll just lose another pound or two to offset the heavier rifle!
I’m gonna throw a Trijicon Credo HX 2.5-15 on it. Should come in a touch under 8 lbs. for the scope and rifle. I haven’t convinced myself yet but I may run it suppressed. Gonna be fun to get back behind the press and work up some loads.
