2019 Antelope was shot with a 308 pushing a 165 gr. Hornady out of a Remington XCR not a light rifle but rock steady. My go to cal. for white tails is a 30-06 Ruger #1 pushing a 165 gr. Speer. Never let me down. Really boils down to what you want. The nice thing is one can never have to many rifles.

You won't be disappointed, going from a /06 to 308 is almost immeasurable, shorter action, shorter barrel, a bit less reload cost, a bit less recoil........ With great performance!

I think I need therapy after this thread. Hopefully the zillion dollar MPI stock they've prefab'd for my hunter will fit my accent! (LOP increased, so not a total waste).
I wonder how an 18" .308 trajectory will line up with the b&c reticle graduations? Also, sure would be nice for the 14 mile pack in to have 5 inches less of barrel sticking out of my pack through the brush (suppressor off)!
Since i'm only shooting 500 absolute max, probably stick with .308 over 7mm-08 for slightly less weight (?) and I already have the mountain ascent. I'd switch to eldx vs ttsx if my ascent is to become a 500 yard rig.

308 is my favorite caliber and I love short barrels. Just put it together last month and is next to me as I type. Short action, light weight, components everywhere and little recoil. 178 eld x 2500+/- fps out of a 16.5 and good out to 450-500 yards. Ultra 5 still in jail .Compress_20221117_152133_3974.jpgCompress_20221117_152133_3810.jpg
