I’m sitting with a good problem,I drew my limited elk tag and will be in the elk woods for the first 10 days of the Wyoming antelope season(starts 9/15). I have to get home and stick around for at least 7-10days. So I won’t be able to hunt my antelope tag until around 10/10, with the season being in for almost a month, should I be concerned? Kinda has me thinking maybe I should change my app before tomorrows deadline and pick a unit with a later start date.

Any input in appreciated.

I've hunted them a bunch of times late in the season, yes some of the better bucks might of gotten shot but you also almost always have less hunters out there to contend with. The only thing that can be an issue is that anytime you hunt later in the season the weather can get you, I've been rained out or snowed out a couple times, if you have enough time not a problem but its something to think about.

We hunted my daughters antelope tag last year a month into the season it was awesome, no people around and plenty of antelope. They dont go into hiding like other critters lots will have been harvested already but lots will still be around. This was in Idaho and only 60 or so total tags but I’ve hunted type 2 in Wyoming before with an October start date and it seems to translate

What’s the trophy quality like for your antelope unit? What are your expectations for a buck that you’d be happy with?

I think you’ll see a lot less people later in the season and you should still see a lot of pronghorn. I wouldn’t really worry about being there late unless you’re trying to target a couple of specific bucks.

We went on my son’s fall break in October one year. We had it to ourselves.
You could also plan to hunt antelope for half a day and tag out when you’re out there for elk.

Point truck to Wyoming after elk hunt. You don’t want to fly with all those horns and meat, anyway.

Oh I’d love to, I think my wife may want to kill me if I try that. I’m good for 10-12 days, after that I’ll need atleast 10 days home before the next trip.

Ive never hunted openers when I draw resident goat tags. Way to focused on elk and deer in september. Antelope is easy, drive..find...shoot..if you miss..drive more..shoot again. Not a challenge to find goats unless you wait to final week of october in certain areas where they could migrate out of.

My last antelope hunt was in 2010 but it was a second season tag plus we went late due to another previous mule deer hunt. As others mentioned there’s way less hunters on public land at that time plus we found them herded up, made for a great hunt.
