I personally prefer OnX maps to goHunt’s in recent years, but I feel like this thinking is a bit flawed. I wouldn’t expect a custom home builder to do every trade and give me the best product. I wouldn’t expect hope they are good at one or two of the trades and sub out the other trades to good contractors in their respective trade. I don’t go to Scheel’s and expect they personally build every product, but rather have the best brands available so I walk away with what I want. I think GoHunt should be the same thing. They are a research company that does maps and (most likely) subs out their maps to someone that does a better job than they do. They stick in their lane, but provide a product people ask for. OnX doesn’t come close to GoHunt on research, however they have the feature (and it’s most likely subbed out) because people asked for it.Here is what I have observed about this.
Look at the careers page for Go Hunt: https://www.gohunt.com/browse/news-and-updates/announcements/careers-at-gohunt
They never have jobs posted for software engineers, data engineers, geospatial.... all of the employees one needs to make a software as a service function.
By contrast, take a look at OnX's careers page: https://www.onxmaps.com/join-our-team
All of the job opening you would expect to see for a software company.
There's no way that Go Hunt doesn't have this app 100% farmed out to a 3rd party tech company. Do with that bit of information what you may.
Thanks budGoHunt for research
OnX for mapping in field
Prioritize one or buy both if you have the $$
