GoHunt getting into mapping

IMO even if you dont fully know how to use GE and all of its functions and ability to import boundary lines its still way better than this beta 3D map by GoHunt. I played around for 30 mins and wasnt impressed but maybe the complete version will be better?

Having a competitor in the gps maps game will make onx keep improving, should be good for both long term.

OnX already has multiple competitors that are as good or better than they are... And both much less expensive.

I wouldn't compare GoHunt to OnX. I compare it to a combination of TopRut ($20), Gaia or Basemap ($40/$30), and the Caltopo Add-on for Google Earth. ($20, if you want it to get their overlays in GE)

Total price GoHunt is $150, Total Price TopRut, Gaia, Caltopo is $80. I'd take the latter at the same price. And, I hate GoHunt's store so I don't want one of their stupid $50 "Discounts" to buy marked up stuff with steep shipping costs.

Only way I'll use GoHunt is if I have a glass too many of bourbon one night when they're running a black friday sale.

The 3d is a game changer mixed with the hunting specific stuff. I just swung it around facing south and basically flew over the unit I'm hunting and marked every Northish facing slope with meadows, dark timber, and water in about 20 minutes.

How is it a "Game changer" when 3D like that is already available in Basemap and Google Earth? Or is it somehow different than what they offer in those two platforms?

I didn't know about basemap and you gotta fumble with google earth a little if you want to have the topo and onx overlays. Maybe game changer was the wrong choice of wording but I, myself am way more efficient using it.

No fumbling at all for Google Earth for all of the topo, fire history, slope shading etc. Pretty much click a button once you get it set up and the overlay pops up. Click the button and you're back to satellite. Only thing GE does not do is detailed land ownership with names (you can get private, USFS, BLM, state breakdown), but that is available in Gaia and Basemap.

For me: Google Earth still blows away every other option for desk scouting.

I use GE almost exclusively for scouting but it doesn't include the 3D stuff goHUNT has. And if my information is correct, nobody but ge will have comparable sat imagery quality. GE still does user data organization and data imports better but the gap is shrinking.

I really like it myself, ill never use it but it will make Onx step up their game so im thinking I will have 3D real soon from Onx. If you and a bunch of buddies are already married to ONX makes it hard to think of any kind of switch.

You can add the usgs topo goHUNT is using or the earthmate topo with a cpl mouse clicks. You can also find the old onx plat4ge overlays that have all public/pvt land ownership.

What's different about the 3D view between GE and goHunt? I use the GE 3D view fairly frequently, but no goHunt experience with the new mapping product.

Correct on the image quality, but you can manually add the GE Sat Imagery into Gaia yourself as a manual layer (as well as other data sources)

For those of us already subscribing to OnX and go hunt, it could provide some savings (consolidate to one subscription). That all hinges on a go hunt app that allows u to run it and navigate offline. We will see.

I would have to agree. If you only hunt your home state and have no intention of subscribing to goHUNT for draw odds you will find this mapping system will be too over priced compared to GE/ OnX. If you were on the fence about goHUNT this will allow you to save money by canceling OnX and subscribe to goHUNT. As long as their mobile app is good of course.
