GoHunt.com or Hunting Fool

I'm looking for a western hunting resource that I can easily reference unit info, PP requirements, recent changes to management plans, et al. I've narrowed it down to either gohunt.com or hunting fool. Can anyone give me any compelling reasons to go with one over the other?

buy the app, point finder for $1.99! Huntin Fool isn't bad but please don't trust them to do your apps. They will mess it up I promise. They actually messed mine up 3 out of 4 years. Lost my AZ loyalty point as well as they point for elk too. Another option is to buy both subscriptions to Eastmans Hunting Journal and Eastmans Bowhunting Journal and then you will have the west covered. Kinda smart for Eastmans to make you get both mags for complete coverage and still cheaper than the Fool. Point finder is by far the cheapest but much less information but at least you won't miss a deadline and can do your research online to figure out what to do. Don't be afraid to call the state game and fish departments and ask to speak to a biologist and they will help a great deal.

Wait till the fall then join gohunt.
Huntin fool is way behind the curve. give eastmans another year to see if Hoshour can right the ship.

I think it helps to have Eastmans just to get an idea of how they rank their top units. I don't really care how they rank them but then at least you'll have an idea of which units will get lots of apps. Or if they upgrade a unit you're going to apply in, you can expect draw odds to go down a little bit.

I dont know anything about gohunt.com but I view Eastmans and HF as basically the same info. If you are just looking for general info on units with a few details on changes and such is HF really worth the extra money? I would never use any of their services like outfitters or let them do my apps so why pay 3 or 4 times as much for almost the same info I can get from Eastmans.

Wapitibob why you suggest wait till fall? And does gohunt.com have a shop or place to stop and visit? Am wondering because I will be be in Vegas in September. Wife has a training for work.

GoHunt hasn't gotten fully up to speed on all the western states. By waiting till fall they will have all of them covered and you can start the membership prior to the 2016 draws.

The problem I have with any publication/subscription that's supposed to "keep me informed", is that I don't see any of them do a very good job of that. If I paid for a membership/subscription, I would have wanted to know about the AZ NR draw changes coming for 2016, prior to the 2015 draw. I posted those changes on multiple forums in Dec 2013. Neither HF nor Eastmans have mentioned it. Did GoHunt bring it up?
I would also want to know why some WY draw reports don't accurately show odds for some hunts and species. Neither HF nor Eastmans have informed their readers/subscribers of that part of the NR draw. GoHunt however, has a clear grasp on that part of the WY draw process. The question is, did they pass that info on to their members?

Hey guys - I figured this would be a good time for me to jump in and introduce myself -

I am Lorenzo Sartini and President of goHUNT.com. I will be around and can answer any of the questions you guys might have about goHUNT, but for now ill start with answering the questions above.

- Yes we are based out of Las Vegas and our office address is 6595 S. Jones BLVD Las Vegas, NV 89118. There is absolutely an open invite to anyone who would like to stop by and talk shop with us.

- We cover six states right now, NV, UT, ID, AZ, CO, and NM. WY and MT will be live shortly and we will continue to add states from there. With the in-house team of goHUNT and our 3rd party contributors throughout the western states, we are able to give extremely in depth information.

What is goHUNT.com INSIDER and what it gets you:

-Research every unit, every specie, every hunt in each state...

- Technology powered tools such as "filtering" so you can find the specific species and hunts you are looking for. For example, you can search search Idaho, mule deer, over-the-counter rifle and see all the units that offer a hunt matching that criteria. Once you see a unit you like, you can click over and research it in more depth.

- 5 year trends on average temperature, and precipitation by month on a unit specific level.

- 5 year trends on resident and non-resident tag quotas with the correlating harvest success on a unit and hunt specific level.

- INSIDER covers every unit/area in the states we have live. We do not select a top 5 choice or "staff picks". With the amount of info we have on every unit, INSIDER's can find the opportunities and hunts that are truly producing what they are looking for.

Added Benefit:

- We have a very aggressive monthly giveaway schedule. You are automatically entered into the giveaways every month for the $149 membership. In the past we have given away -- 3 custom rifles, 5 sets of head to toe Sitka, and 5 pairs of Zeiss 10x42 binos. This month we are giving away 5 pairs of Kenetrek boots, and future items will be elk hunts, deer hunts, and more top of the line gear.

-We provide in-depth state analysis and application strategies for each state when the apps open. Within our app strategy piece for WY, we did cover the NR elk draw and the correct information of how it works. (only paying members see these pieces).

- The AZ NR draw changes we did not cover, due to it being proposed and not finalized. The proposed changes are in public comment right now and the commission will meet on the changes in May/June. The earliest a change could be put in place would be August, if the Governor lifts the current moratorium on changes in rule making.

If you would like to research the product a bit more I would encourage you to checkout goHUNT.com/INSIDER. There you will find more on the product.

We have some awesome enhancements coming soon!

Thanks! and sorry for the long post...

Lorenzo, thanks for the input, that's the kind of information that I think all of us can appreciate!

The one feature of the HF that I've found extremely useful in the past is the previous tag holder contact information. Is any other service other than HF providing anything similar? I know that goes beyond draw application strategy but it's proven important with my group in the past.

Its cool to hear from Lorenzo. I didn't really know what gohunt was trying to do. Does gohunt even cover stuff like bears and cats?

I have used Huntin Fool off and on over the years and the member draw database is a nice resource.

Thanks rhendrix and wapitibob, thats much appreciated.

As for the member draw list - I agree that is a great resource to have as a hunter when you pull one of those primo tags and don't want to waste any time. We definitely have plans to accomplish this in the future, gaining a list that is of value to us hunters will take time but we are committed to doing it.

And for cats and bears, we are currently figuring out how to release those species and tie them in with our INSIDER product. This is also something we are committed to bringing to INSIDER. We also have had outfitters wanting to promote bear and cat hunts through their outfitter profiles - would this be something that would help in the short term for finding those hunts?

thanks for the input guys.

Lorenzo,

I'm a longtime Huntin Fool member and I'm thinking about switching over.. I've watched your videos on your site and have a few questions for you.. You may have answered some of these but I didn't see them:

1) Do you have drawing odds info, current and historical? (i.e., last year 300 NRs applied for 4 NR tags, year before 150 people applied for 4 NR tags, etc.)
2) Do you have printable topo/boundary maps available?
3) Do you have maps that show public/private land boundaries?
4) Do you have hunt/unit specific consultation by phone or e-mail?
5) Do you have info on OTC units or only Draw units?
6) Do you guys have detailed species info within units (i.e., Cat rock and Snake point have some of the best Elk numbers and quality in the Unit, stay away from East side, etc.)

That's all I can think of right now lol

*I also would really like to see detailed Bear info.. It's hard to find much info on Bear draws in the lower 48..

or do all of the above for your first year applying and then thin the heard next year
Hi,
I am CEO of GotMyTag which makes the PointHunter app.
thanks for using PointHunter to get your reminders and know your points. Whether you prefer GoHunt or Eastmans or Huntinfool paying $1.99 to make sure you do not miss applying is worth the extra insurance. And it is a super quick way to know all your points on your phone screen. You can also just hit update and see if your points are updated by the states.

I would love any feedback on what people think should be added to the PointHunter app.
You can download it here: www.gotmytag.com/download/Best_Hunting_App_RS
