Go-Lite back in the game-Tents

Yeah thats cool. I hope they do well. I'm excited to see them make a renewed appearance. Although Golite name was way cool and a hiking Icon in the community.

Site says the 4 man is 15D silnylon....my current shelter is 30D. I wonder how the 15D compares for toughness and waterproofing?

If I recall, that's what it was before. It's a thin material but it will hold up as long as you don't abuse it. My old SL5 had a few ember burns and a couple small tears that patched fine with tenacious tape and I didn't have further issues. One nice thing about this material is it's silicone on the outside and polyurethane coated on the inside so seam tape will stick to the inside. No real need to seam seal but it doesn't hurt either.

I used a GoLite SL-5 from 2010 to 2014 (5 years) here in Alaska and it had well over 300 nights pitched from the Brooks Range to Kodiak and everywhere in between. The 15D held up fine until one exceptionally windy night on Kodiak in 2014 on a goat hunt that finally tore a big hole in it. Had it been my only shelter and pitched in the alders rather than the wide open cause I had a couple other shelters there as back up I believe it would have made it through just fine. As it was it was all we could do to keep the Kifaru 12 man tipi from blowing away.

For my uses the 15D stuff that Golite had was fine for my uses most of the time and I attribute part of the reason it finally tore due to 300 days in the field setup (UV damage) weakend the silnylon over time. But many for many people even 20 nights a year setup that is a LOT of years out of a GREAT tent IMO.
Hope that helps
