Glock g20 gen 5 jamming issues

If nothing else, any .40 FMJ should be able to penetrate enough into a bear to get to the vitals, and it's a situation where reliability is far more important than having the hottest, most perfect load to shoot.

That's my thought. The CCI 180s that are feeding well probably aren't all that far behind the Underwood in round-for-round effectiveness, and way ahead if they run well. If you eventually figure out the problem with the Underwood, great, but personally, I wouldn't sweat carrying the CCI for bear defense if they run well.

It’s not the springs. Go back to stock and shoot regular ammo whether that’s FMJ’s or a good barrier blind HP all of them will do the job. It’s about rounds on target and reliably.

Glocks that aren’t in 9mm are usually not as great as you’d like to think in terms of reliability. I’ve heard of many o’ problems with the gen 5 10mm and 45acp models. The .40 cal seem to be good though.

If your gun is jamming this early, it would be hard to trust it again.

I like all the glocks, I’ve never noticed one to be more reliable than another other EXCEPT a g36 I had years back.

I’ve got a gen5 g20 that runs like a top, the only thing I’ve changed is the sights. When I got it I bought a bunch of different ammo to try. If I remember right I had:
-blazer aluminum 180 and 200g
-blazer brass 180g
-sig sauer 180g
-buffalo bore 200g, 220g hard cast
-underwood 200g, 220g hard cast
-underwood extreme penetrator 140g
-buffalo bore 190g mono copper
-a few others too

I couldn’t get the gun to hiccup, I put around 400 rounds through it with about 125 of those being full power woods loads and it just shot it all.

I’ll have to pull that pistol out of my drybag and double check but I think it’s loaded with 200g underwood. I was thinking of taking another look at the 140g extreme penetrators rounds though.

Question: on the gen5 is there any point in getting a KKM barrel? I had one in my gen4 and it absolutely supported the case better than the factory barrel. I believe the gen5 has a different barrel though.

Many Glock 20’s have had issues when you get over a certain power factor of ammunition. The main issue seems to be the slide speed outruns the magazine spring feed rate. Going to a higher poundage recoil spring can sometimes make the issue worse as it increases the slide spring speed as it slingshots forward. Going to a higher poundage magazine spring may help, but as has been mentioned previously the bigger issue is if the ammo you are running is right on that edge you may have issues under stress when your grip isn’t perfect. For me with my current Gen 3 I found switching to Double Tap 200 gr hardcast from Buffalo Bore and Underwood at a little lower velocity alleviated those same kind of feeding issues you are having. Lost River ammo also makes a Hardcast load at a little lower velocity that I have heard good things about.

The only Glocks that I have issues with have been 10's and 45's, but only when I tried ammo with hard cast bullets designed for "deep penetration". When I switched back to regular bullets, even loaded to +p ratings, the issues went away, but my speed and accuracy were not as good when compared to my 9. I do love my 10, but I am carrying a pistol to save my life, and I want as much reliability, speed, and accuracy, so I choose a 9 everyday with a good barrier blind bullet.

I appreciate it! I’ve been reading these comments about once a week but haven’t replied. Since I initially posted I’ve put a new spring from wolf in the gun, and shot 500 rounds of cheap 180 grain fmj. Not a single issue. Just went out to shoot some underwood again and it jammed after the 3rd shot. I want to throw the thing in the river but with bow season starting in a little over a week I don’t have time to get a new holster for one of my other pistols.

Did you switch back to the factory guide rod?

I would try that and if that doesn't fix it, polish the feed ramp as others have suggested.

Swapped the guide rod back to factory, shot a mag with no jams. Gonna try 2 more mags in a few minutes hopefully good to go now.

2 more mags. No jams. That’s 3 full mags now with no failures, with the stock guide rod and spring back in. Maybe it did just need broken in by those additional 500 bullets? The factory guide rod and spring that are back in the gun were not in it for those 500 break in bullets.
