Giving Thanks!

The native American I hunt with has a ceremony has performs every kill we get. He will cover the gut pile with stones and brush, then he does a little chant over the pile and the animal..

Thanking the animal doesn't make sense to me. The animal didn't give you its life willingly so there is nothing to thank the animal for. The animal would have much rather continued to breathe and could care less if you did or not. However giving thanks to the Creator of the animal and all creatures including mankind should be the one receiving the thanks. The Lord Almighty allowed me the opportunity, gave me the health, provided the creature, I will give my thanks to him alone.

To each there own I guess...

“Give thanks to the Lord for He is good. His steadfast love endures forever”.

Our Heavenly Father gives us everything. From the air in our lungs, to a beating heart, the people we share camps with and of course the animals He created and gives to us to eat. He gives us the health to hunt and the abilities to be good hunters. He gives us everything we have!

It’s not totally uncommon for people to publicly express gratitude to our Father after killing one of His animals. It’s the secular world we live in that doesn’t want to recognize Him in everything we do.

As we approach another hunting season, I pray for safety for all of my fellow hunters, safety for our families as we temporarily leave them, and for success in whatever you’re pursuing. Thank you Jesus, for another day on this earth.

What makes you, kwack killn crew, the arbiter of such things?
I don't think he claimed to be the arbiter of these things. He gave his opinion on the question at hand, just like the rest of us. The particular response that you quoted doesn't give us any explanation to understand his opinion, which would be helpful; but it is just his opinion, stated very matter of factly.

Never at any time after I have shot a deer and it ran rapidly away trying to escape the threat did I ever get the sense the animal was saying to me "your welcome".
when you shot a deer, did God come down and stand infront of you and say "you're welcome okie"? how do you know that when i said thanks to the animal, the animal spirit didnt say "you're welcome"

my "church" if you want to call it that, is being in the outdoors. I feel closer to animals then to what ever could be out there that is bigger then us. me saying thanks to the animal is no different then you saying thanks to god or who ever you follow.

I have hunted with a few people that have asked me if i cared if they said a prayer prior to the hunt or after we killed something. I always say, go for it. Those same people dont care if i say thanks to the animal or say how it doesnt make sense to them why i say thanks to the animal.

say thanks to what ever or who ever you want, or dont say thanks and start cutting up the animal, i dont really care. People saying it doesnt make sense to say thanks to the animal has just as much merit as me saying it doesnt make sense to say thanks to god or what ever spaghetti monster you follow. You guys have your rule book and others have their own.
