I have started to do some looking into Outfitters in the Gila to do a hunt with my dad, it has always been a dream of his to hunt the Gila. From the research I have been doing I have found 3 outfitters that run hunts in the area. I was wondering if anyone has any input on them, they are:

New Mexico Pro Big Game Hunting INC

Big Rim Outfitters

Trophy Ridge Outfitters

anyone hunted with these any of these guys and care to share your experiences?

Yes and no. If you look at how hard it is to draw a tag in the Gila you will understand the comment.
I figured I would do more research this year and plan on applying next year unless they offer landowner tags. Just wanted to not be that guy that is waiting until I did draw a tag and than be scrambling to try and find a good outfitter

Best NR odds are applying with outfitter. You have to have signed contract before you can use Outfitter number. You can’t get a signed contract until you pick an outfitter.

OP Frontier Outfitters is my recommendation. GT has a very strong base of repeat hunters.

Thanks for the info, I will add them to my list to check out

odds are .005% for the better Gila Units. You can get LO tags for 15-25k though.

Seems a bit backward to apply for a tag before finding information about which outfitter I might want to go with doesn't it?
No. Because the odds of drawing that tag are really low, and outfitters are a dime a dozen. Draw the tag and you will be bombarded with outfitter opportunities.

True, but even when applying in the outfitter draw, odds for Gila tags still suck!

lol, how about facts instead of opinions

First best outfitters many be booked already with their outfitter pool combined with LO tag hunters

Second draw odds are exponentially better outfitted

First season archery 16’s, Over 50% better odds outfitted

OP sign a contract if you are already planning on going outfitted, the numbers don’t lie.

OK, lol, so if you want facts…. Even with those 50% better odds the approximate numbers are: 16a 1-30 for for 1st season and 1-80 for second archery. 16b 1-10 to 1-20. 16c 1-7 to 1-15. 16d 1-50 to 1-175. 16e 1-10 to 1-20.

I’ve been doing this a very long time. I understand the odds very well. Sure, try the outfitter draw, but no need to get too excited about it just yet. Even with those 50% better odds, they are still loooooong. Of course if you are also willing to pay for a LO tag as a back up, booking an outfitter now does make even more sense.

I dont understand why you are feeling the need to argue on this.

The OP has already stated he wants to use a guide. Outfitter tags have higher odds than regular draw. Why would he NOT do that? And to take advantage of that, requires choosing an outfitter upfront and signing a contract.

If you dont have anything meaningful to contribute why waste your time replying in this thread? that bad of a day for you?
