A good friend of mine passed away from cancer this year in his early 40’s. A true salt of the earth man. His father called me yesterday and asked if he could stop by. He said I was on a list of friends that his son wanted his guns distributed to. Talk about humbling my heart.. To know that my friendship was special to him meant the world to me.

When his pops stopped by he presented me with a nice ruger precision rifle and a sweet double barrel 12 (home defense style :)

This post is in reference to the ruger. It’s a heavy rascal! I am considering rebarreling to lighten it up and get more use out of it. Possibly carbon. Maybe go with one of these new 6mm cartridges everyone is raving about. Thinking 18-20” on barrel length. Will run suppressed.
I’m looking for opinions.
First
Any recommendations on prefit barrel makers for the ruger?
Second
which 6mm cartridge you recommend? There are so many it’s overwhelming to dig into them! What all works with 308 bolt face beyond the 6 & 6.5 CM?
Anyone tinkered with one of these rugers ? Any mods worth doing beyond some trigger work?

Thank you in advance!

Proof prefits.

6GT and 6dasher run off standard bolt face.

What is it currently chambered in? 6.5creed was the cartridge that really made the RPR worth having.

It’s chambered in 308.
I was just reading up on 6gt

Before you trash the barrel, consider the following:

I imagine you already have a hunting rifle you are happy with.
What this rifle needs is a reason to be used. As it is right now, you have a turn-key PRS weighted rifle that fits perfectly in the PRS Tactical division (223 and 308)

If you’ve never competed before, take this as an opportunity to expand your horizon and grow as a more complete shooter. I can think of no better way to honor your late friend.

then after doing a few local shoots, decide if you would rather rechamber to something else.
