Back when I guided the best tips were the unique things the clients would give me just as simple tokens. The best to this day was a surgeon that had his surgical tools made with etched salmon on them and had some Leathermans made the same way. He gave me a custom Leatherman and a set of titanium forceps with the salmon on them. It was just cool. Simple stuff is often better. But I like the idea of going and seeing what he needs or wants and sending him that. That's a good idea.

If I invited someone to go hunting with me and they brought me a big fancy gift like an expensive rangefinder, I would honestly feel a little insulted. A token gift of a bottle of whiskey would be nice, but when I give something, I do it out of the goodness of my heart and I feel that the whole expensive gift thing cheapens the whole gift of the hunt. 2¢

Think I'll take him and his buddies and newly wed wife (9 days before I show) a couple hats with our farm name on it. Small appreciation to all for the thought and hospitality. Then see what he may need.
