New to Reloading

I’ve kind of missed the opportunity to reload if I don’t have any components haven’t I?

Trying to find 210m primers
.264 156 bergers
6.5 PRC brass
6.5 PRC dies

I’m really kicking myself I’ve always wanted to get into reloading and have always made the excuse that I don’t have the time.

Now in todays crazy market I’m afraid I’m not going to be able to.

Is there anywhere anyone knows of I either purchase these items or work with a reloading supplier who would be getting these items in that would stay in touch with me on arrival of items?

Shouldn’t be too hard to find brass and dies, I see them come up pretty often. Going to have to be Johnny on the spot to get those primers and the 156’s. Your best bet is to get on the reloading Discord

Components show up. I load for the 6.5 PRC and just like anything else, you have to jump on it. In the last 5 months I’ve managed to gobble up 4 boxes of 156 EOL and 800 pieces of brass. I’ve always had a lot of primers and that is where you need to be extra diligent on getting on emailing lists, checking ammoseek for primers and getting on the discord.
Are you absolutely set on the PRC? The 6.5x284 is a phenomenal round and ballistically not that much different. There are always brass and dies for it. Primers are primers and you can’t get around that. Build one on a long action, stick to a bullet/ brass combo, bring it into your gunsmith and start shooting. You wouldn’t be disappointed with it. I know I’m not.

Thanks for the advice

I’m trying to sift through allot of different info

where would 156 EOL pop up?
(EOL is a that boattail hunting bullet right?)

I have about 100 rounds of Hordany brass but my wife’s uncle is telling me it’s junk and to get better brass

I would get brass where?

Primers are primers? there are some military large rifle primers available. Should I buy them?

one guy says get the magnum, another guy says 210m, my buddy says any large rifle primer. I’m just not sure who to listen to.

(As far as the 6.5 prc I’m shooting a Christianson that just came back from the factory with a new barrel and they work over the action, I was super disappointed but it’s showing some promise now with factory ammo which I’m now out of)

Yes it is. EOL stands for “Extreme Outer Limits”. Just branding.
Primers are primers meaning the availability is crummy no matter what your loading for. No. Wait until you find CCI/ FED or Winchester.
Hornady brass works just fine. I’m on my 7th firing on a lot right now. I just take good care of the brass and anneal every single time. First firing with brass pretty low to harden up the base. With that said, they do not hold up as well as lapua, ADG and some the other high end ones and you certainly do get what you pay for. I sent a CA Ridgeline back once and they spun up a new barrel for me too. Great customer service. Too bad we had to send them back in the first place.
You’re more than welcome to PM me and ask more questions. I understand how frustrating it can be.

Thanks I hate bothering people about stuff that I don’t know what I’m talking about. Do you have any recommendations on books or YouTube channels on how to reload. I’m really a beginner I took a class a few years ago and have been around firearms my whole life but never picked up on exactly how to reload.

Just be patient, you'll find what you're looking for. Check some of the smaller gun shops in your area for them, as well as local classifieds, estate sales, and auctions. They come up from time to time. My first primers came in a box with wooden separators and a red and white can of 4350...and I just started reloading about 2 years ago...

I’ve been lucky finding everything but primers at the local shops hit and miss. I just check in often and buy when it’s there. Primers especially 215s have been scarce but I have found them once in a great while. The main local shop has been limiting to one box at a time to help spread them around which I guess is cool so one guy doesn’t just buy them all and put them on gun broker, but yeah, it’s a tough time to get into it from scratch. All the shops have orders for everything for the last couple years and get what they get, so going in constantly is probably the best bet to find anything.

Dude you’re not a bother. I’ve been there, completely self taught sifting through all of the info on all of those platforms, obsessing every time I heard a new term or way of doing something, feeling wildly overwhelmed. Sam at, “Panhandle Precision” has what I feel is the very best, beginning to end process on reloading. Still, throughout that process, you will still have questions that you won’t be able to ask him. Reloading Herpes is real. So much info that it based on personal preference to reach the same product. Again, you’re more than welcome to reach out.

I’d skip those and wait until you can get your hands on something else. That’s way over the top on price. Depending on where you are located I’d reach out on local channels and see if you can buy a sleeve or two off of someone. 200 or so primers would be a great start to learning

I’ve had good success with this. Make sure to check gunbroker as well. You’re going to pay more than you need too doing that, but if you must get started…

Panhandle Precision, Bolt Action Reloading, Erik Cortina, LRO/Ryan Furman, and Ultimate Reloader have some great in depth content on YouTube. Honestly you have to decide what you're expecting out of reloading and sift through the info to find out what's gonna benefit you in your process, and what is past the point of diminishing return. There is a hefty pile of good info in this section of the forum too, you can answer a lot of your own questions just by the search bar.

Are those primers no good or over priced. I can pay but I don’t want to if there not going to be any good for accuracy

Both... CCI-200/250, Federal-210/215 are what I would patient for. I’ve shot plent of Winchester large rifle primers and they worked. I have had Magtech not go “boom” so I would stay away from them. The 250 and 215s are magnum large rifle. I get lower SDs with standard but to each their own. If money isn’t an issue and you don’t mind paying, then just jump on gunbroker, type that in and buy them just know that they are going to be overpriced.
Don’t get spun around the spokes on the primers. Read the reloading manuals, see what they used for their load data, try different types and what works for you. Anything in large rifle needs large rifle primers. Don’t look past that. That’s just what it is. If you lived closer I would just gift a few hundred of each just to shake out the bugs. I over complicated it what I started as well and was overwhelmed. But I found out that there isn’t really any magic to it and it just is as it appears sometimes with nothing deeper.
You want my advice; Buy a thousand standard large rifle primers either CCI or Federal. You’ll pay mostl likely $200.00 for them, load em up and start learning what works best for you. You’re certainly never going to get there by not doing it.

You could get the Magtech primers. I've never used Magtech but if I couldn't find anything else I'd try them. Yes the price is high but if you need them now you have no choice. That's about double the cost of what I used to pay for primers. Pretty much everything else is available- powder, brass, bullets. Maybe not the exact bullet you want, or powder, but there are options available that will work. But that's just not the case with primers. Take whatever you can get. Now I don't know about the company that's selling the Magtech primers, listed on Ammoseek. I'd try to verify first that it's a legitimate company.
