It's been a long time since I've shot a bow. After helping a few friends during elk archery here in Colorado I want to get back into it.

Plan on shooting a lot the next year. Getting ready for elk archery.

I shot a few bows at my store and got this Mathew's. I got what I could within my budget. Definitely room for upgrades down the road. It's been phenomenal to shoot.

Bows have absolutely changed in the last 20 years since I shot. This looks like something Predator would own 🤘🏼

After 6 arrows I got it sighted in. The next 6 right on target.

Dang, jumping straight into archery Elk? That's bold of you haha. I'm just getting back into it again after about 12 years off, it feels good! I haven't purchased a new bow yet, still shooting my old Hoyt Rampage XT but I'll be picking something new up in the next couple months for sure.

Haha I love a challenge.
Putting in for elk and mule deer in March 🤞🏼

Thats awesome man! You going to hunt with a bow this year?

I've been shooting 5 arrows a day, throughout the day, for the last couple of months now.

That first shot is the one that matters so taking one shot every few hours.

Shooting mostly 60/70 yds 🤘🏼 20260111_165425.jpg

That's great to stay consistent, I've been a little baby with shooting because its been -30°F and thats no fun haha. I'll bowhunt whitetail again this year, I started late October last year but I enjoy the early season hunts!

My mule deer hunt will be rifle but the more I watch videos and such the more I want to do archery elk with absolutely no expectations the first few years. An OTC cow tag would be awesome experience.

Yeah it's great, I enjoy shooting everyday.

Damn. Yeah I don't blame you. That's rough.
Nice, yeah I hunted whitetail back in TN but never with a bow. I need to get back sometime and try it.
Yeah I'm excited to be doing all my hunting this year in September.

What season mule deer you going to try for?

Definitely, archery elk on public will be quite the feat. It's taken me 4 years in a new area to get one, hunting muzzleloader and rifle.

4 years even with firearms is crazy! They make it look so easy on YouTube haha. Did you shoot a bull or a cow?

I'm still deciding the details on the mule deer hunt... I'm trying to convince a buddy to come with, it'll be partially dependent on who comes with. I'm in great shape so I'd like to pick western Montana in the nastiest terrain where others aren't willing to go, but my hunting partner also needs to be able to do that haha. That will also be about the experience but I'd at least love to come away with some meat regardless.

White tail archery in the Midwest is so different, just mainly scouting and finding a good spot and waiting. Definitely still enjoyable, especially when you have different animals coming in you can watch.
