I'm trying to understand how the rangefinder in these binos work with a bds turret cut for a specific bullet/temp/altitude.

From what Leica told me, when you range in either mils, moa or distance, ballistic calculations always include bullet/temp/altitude/angle. Fair enough, that's what I would expect.

However, what's less clear to me: if my bds is cut for yardage with a specific temp and altitude, is the modifed yardage calculation (modified using actual temp/altitude/angle) going to give me a reading for how the bds was cut? In other words, can I take the effective yardage from the bino and just set the turret and go?

No, you need a standard MOA dial, not one customized for a load. So if your rangefinder says correct 4 MOA, you dial 4 MOA - not what your custom dial says as that is in yardage.

Thanks. That's my default.

But honestly, I am super confused: Leica seems to have said the opposite. But then again what could the meaning of a yd adjustment be if it doesn't have baseline assumptions about temp/alt. And if it does, then why wouldn't ballistic model take that in to account up front?

I believe if you set your Geovid to display EHR you simply need to dial your turret to the yardage output and you should be good as long as you are hunting in the general altitude that your BDS turret was cut for.

In the 3200COM, temp and alt are turned off when displaying EHR, so that there’s no interference with the custom turret.
ok, that makes sense I guess. For the ranges I am looking at, I don't think the altitude diff is really going to matter anyway.
