I'm not one to post a lot like I did in forums in the day, but I still enjoy reading through thought provoking posts. I've enjoyed following the Shoot2Hunt course discussions, the discussions on training and what did you do at the range today. In that spirit, I wanted to throw one out there.
About 20-25 years ago, someone from Utah I believe (If anyone knows who did this, let me know so they can get credited) who was on one of the first SnipersHide forums put out a shooting competition called Geo-Shooting. In short, you go hike out and put a target out for your buddy. You send him the GPS coordinates. At his leisure he has to navigate out and stalk to where he can see it, range it and take the shot and score it. Then repeat somewhere for his buddy, and see who has the highest number of points at the end of the season. He had a website where one could download the data book pages for a DOPE book for it as well as rules. I always thought it was a fascinating idea and downloaded them (My last modified file date on my copies was 2009!) but unfortunately never could find someone who wanted to play. This group, however, I can see maybe finding interest. Posting this now allows time for inspiration and creativity before a shooting season.
The rules are as they were created many years ago. Follow them as is, or use as a template for something similar that more meets needs and sport of competition. It was designed around an IPSC style target, but it doesn't have to be. There are way more people involved in creating drills and ideas like this these days than back then, and I bet someone could come up with something pretty creative that could really work.
And again, if anyone know who originally created this, please let me know so they can get the credit. I think they gave their website up back around 2015. There never really was much done with it, the website died off, and I really didn't want this idea to just die in obscurity. I think it has potential.
See what interest there is, and post any variations. Attached are the rules and the two DOPE book page formats that were available.
