I have a question for those that drive out west hauling a trailer, freezer and generator. What is a good generator to use for a small freezer?

I have a buddy selling a Honda EU2000i for a good price. Not sure if I could use it or need another.

We ran a freezer with my honda 3000. It is extremely quiet and holds enough fuel to run for about 8 hrs. I think a 2000 would just be a little more of a pain due to its fuel capacity, but it is quite a bit less money. Check the duty cycle. I don't know what it takes to run a freezer. I would hate to run a gen at near the max for hrs on end.

Another vote for Honda, you'll pay more up front but a good investment in the long run. Make sure you know what the "start up" watts are for the freezer and get a big enough gen for that.

I used a Honda eu2000i for my full size freezer last year in Idaho. It ran the freezer fine, though I wouldn't try to run anything else at the same time.

I have the same generator and I guarantee you it will run your freezer along with some other things just fine. Several years ago we had a big wind storm and lost power for 3 days. I ran that little generator almost nonstop the entire time and powered the kitchen fridge, a large upright freezer and a very large chest freezer in the garage. I had to refill the gas tank about every 8 hours, give or take.

I don't have a Honda gen but I do know they are very good and they are pricey but very much worth it. As long as it has enough amps for the start-up of your freezer you won't have any problems. A freezer will only run for a little while then shut off when temp is reached. Depending on the weather the freezer may only run a few times a day.

Honda all the way. You should be fine and as has been said, if you run it for a little while twice a day, you should be fine.

I know Honda's are one of the best but if your wanting to keep the cost down don't over look the champion generators. I have a 1200wt champion that's about 10yrs. old. I've rau the snot out of it and it just keeps on running. Bought a new 2000wt. one recently for my new camp trailer and it handles the trailer with ease.

I've done a trip twice with a freezer, once from AK, once from UT to the east coast. That honda will work great. It will take several days to freeze it down running 24 hours a day. If it is frozen there is no reason to have a generator run on the drive. If you are thinking of having the freezer dispersed camping or at a campsite without hookups than yes on a a generator. If there is a place that you can plug in in town or a campsite, there is no need for a generator for the drive.

have had an eu2000 for many years, some of those years ran two together to run a/c in camper reliable and easy to maintain, carb needs a main jet cleaning occasionally if it sits. larger gas tanks ,,like for an outboard motor , found on ebay solve the refuel issue

this..but run an extension cord out from the house and get that thing frozen on your house juice..

I really like the idea of the 2000 if it can do that. I have the 3000 for the house, but it sure is heavy to pack around. I will convince my brother he needs one for his apartment.

While we are on this... put a couple layers of thick cardboard or plywood on the bottom. Driving with quarters can dent the bottom of the freezer pretty good.

As everyone said, the 2000 will run a freezer fine. I have a 6 gal. extended run tank for mine that seems to last forever. With the 2000, you can also connect another 2000 if you desire or need 4000 watts.

Honda EU2000 is a great generator. I put mine on a homemade rack that extends 18" out the receiver on my F350. Works great, ran it from Yellowknife NWT down into south central BC this year with out issue powering a chest freezer. My Honda was bought used 7 years ago ('06 model). Oil changes and some Sea Foam to clean the carb up occasionally. I've changed jets from high altitude to low as well, easily done. Good luck!
