Tom flew down off the roost. Drew back and thwack into a tree. I looked at my release expecting it likely to be my fault and hook and pin gone... Been shooting this release for 5 years.

Been there. Never broke one and a few years back I broke my main release and my backup within a few days. Had to find a shop to buy a 3rd

A backup release is on my gear list. Your post moved it up a couple of spots. I am thinking it might be a good idea to start shooting the new one and keep my old one for a backup, as it has quite a few shots on it. I am wondering if there is any sort of maintenance you are supposed to do on those. True Fire Hardcore, right?

How are your teeth?

Busted nose?

Never fun when that happens.

Luckily I had just got to full drawn and was settling into peep when it popped.

I just sold my second release, haha, shit. Yes, hardcore. They said it’s covered under warranty but they’re not open until June 1st to even look at it because of Covid. Bummer. I’ll probably just keep it for a backup once replaced.

Dang it! Now I gotta go buy a new release.

Happened on a deer once for me. Now I’ve always wondered why release failures always happen on animals instead of targets.

Well, you just convinced me to move backup release to the top of my list for gear purchases I need to make.

I wonder if it has something to do with pulling back harder with all of the adrenaline?

You’re lucky! A failed release (and bad draw form) cost me two teeth!

I had a release do that a few years ago at about 50% draw and sent it about 15’ in front of me in the grass and the release flew back over my shoulder and almost caught my father in law in the face. When I looked at it the jaw would not stay shut after and I returned it since it was only a few weeks old.

Side note I have my main release and a backup in my bag because I have forgotten or lost them before and I have 2 more in my truck.

I’ve sold a ton of that model release. Despite what happened here it’s a really reliable release. I’ve never seen one fail in this manner. Usually it’s just a malfunction in the trigger reset.

Unfortunately, I have had a release fail in the moment of truth as well. Not the same model, but the result was the same.

I've had pins drift on other releases. I have the one the OP has and haven't seen that issue. Makes me think that I need to take it to the shop and stake the pins with a punch just to be sure.

That said, it is probably a 1 in a million issue.

Got a Carter Like Mike. No pins to drift all caged internal. Really like the the extended length for placing trigger in 1st knuckle and imperceivable trigger travel. Only shot for a day but this release is much more conducive to executing back tension.
