Looking for feedback and real world usage on:

Garmin GPSMAP 67i in conjunction with Garmin GPS Maps+ subscription.

This would be used for western hiking, hunting, and in a pinch general navigation (if iPhone for whatever reason can't get it done).

I was trying to compare the OnX Elite to the Garmin GPS Maps+ subscription, but I'll just ask for input on the GPS Maps+ subscription and save the OnX stuff for my other thread.

I'm going to put the OnX issue aside and just ask if you have a handheld GPS do you still find it useful in the year 2026?

I am going to get an Elite sub to OnX as well, but I guess I'm trying to see if there is any value in getting a new dedicated GPS unit. I can get a Garmin 67i through work for $480.

I know it's still almost $500, but I'm one of the dying breed who still like to have a dedicated GPS unit. Or at least in my mind I think I do?

I'm not a fan of smart phones (I'd go back to a flip phone if I could, but that's another discussion) and I use my iPhones til they die. I'm not an upgrade every year guy. I'm still on an iPhone 15 and the battery is already starting to go pretty quick. Not to mention smart phones just aren't rugged outdoor devices.

That being said, I sold my 14 year old Oregon 550 and haven't used a modern Garmin unit. I'm assuming that the physical units themselves are light years ahead of where they were 15 years ago?

I'm also about to upgrade my Fenix 3 HR to a new Tactix 8 Solar Elite (like I said I don't upgrade often). And while I understand the limitations of using the maps on the watch, the Maps+ subscription does carry over to the watch as well. So there is that.

I'm going to buy the watch for sure and this deal through Garmin is a one time use thing. So if I'm going to get the 67i I have to get it when I buy the watch.

Still use GPS for my hunting and Onx chips
Those memory cards are obsolete though, right? I didn't think OnX was making them any longer?

Not sure what the benefit would be of the OnX memory card other than it's not a subscription?

I believe the Maps+ offers all the same info and is kept up to date vs a one time purchase memory card
