What is the best bags for bone in elk?

I wouldn't say it is the best, but I have had no issues with the black ovis ones. Before those I used the cheap replaceable ones you get at Walmart for like $10. I like the markings that reflect light for finding it in the dark. The draw cord and construction were solid on it as well.

Tag bags. The larger ones are 28 x 60 and can handle a quartered up brontosaurus.

Does an elk hind quarter bone in fit in the bag completely with nothing sticking out? The Ovis bags seem small at 21x38 when the Tag bags are 28x60 and Allen Backcountry large bags are 28x50. On the Ovis web site they have a couple pics with the end of an elk leg sticking out of the bag and some not but they never come out and say how they fit. Some of the reviews elude to elk quarters not fitting completely as well.

A couple years ago I purchased the XL Ovis bags but have only had the chance to put an antelope in a couple of them which of course the bags swallowed up the antelope. Last year I purchased a set of Allen 20x30 bags for smaller quarters and ended up putting a deer and antelope in them which the bags swallowed up no problem. I drew an elk tag in an area that can be hot and buggy so I'm concerned that the Ovis XL might not cover the quarter enough. I might just purchase a set of the Allen bags and carry a couple of them for the elk hind quarters just to be safe.
For the price of the Allen Backcountry bags I think there just as good as the Ovis bags, sure they don't have the fancy reflective tape and only come in a four bag set but the Allen seem to be constructed just as well and they clean up just as good as the Ovis bags plus there $30 to $40 cheaper then the Ovis sacks.

A bone in quarter will fit in most bags if you separate the leg at the end of the femur instead of below the shank. The shank muscle will hang loose but you'll take 12" off the total length.

Your comment is a good point but removing the shank just adds one more step in the process and also removes a good grasping and tie off spot. I find when lifting or hanging quarters the end of the shank where it starts to widen out before the knee joint makes a great place to grab onto or tie to.

There is a member (Felix40) on here who makes game bags. But they are bone out bags. They super light and SUPER strong with zero stretch and they clean up really nice. I had him make me a set for bone in elk and they are superb, for my bull last year no problem with room to spare! I have a set of Ovis XL sacks too, but they take up 3x the space in my pack compared to Felix's. Check them out:

Iv had great luck with my eagle rock gear game bags and they will fit a Colorado moose quarter.

I didn't know about this brand, didn't show up on any searches. If I would have know about them a week ago I would have purchased these instead of the 28x50 Allen bags just to try them out. Though the Allen bags are a big darn hole so the Eagle Rock being 10" longer at 28x60 just might be a little much for an Elk quarter.

My plan this year for my LE elk hunt is to carry 2 of the Allen 28x50 bags so I know a whole bone in hind will fit completely, 2 Ovis XL bags for the front quarters, the Ovis loose meat bag and an Allen 20x30 bag. Bugs can be bad in the area I'm hunting especially in mid September.

I can’t believe Caribou game bags haven’t been mentioned?? They have a Wapiti size with draw strings and reflectors built for bone in elk quarters with a spare bag for the straps and loins
