Looks like you just went w/ a watertight zipper and omitted the velcro over-flap?

Yeah I hate Velcro! I went with elastic around the top cuff and at the arch of the boot. I also put a buckle in the back to keep the zipper from creeping down.

1000d DWR cordura they should hold up to the blackberries and devils club.
