GAIA?

It shows owner's name, but iPhone and desktop you can tap the parcel to get their address like onx does.

Does GAIA seamlessly show your position on the offline maps as you travel from one downloaded map to another, or is only a single offline map visible at one time?

Ok - That isn't available. Then again, I've never used it in OnX or Gaia, iOS or Android. Anytime I need an address I personally am scouting at a computer. In the field - I only use the owner.

I want one of these apps to develop a connector to Google Earth where I can view ownership info within GE on my desktop, that's about the only thing I can't get there...

You can use multiple downloads and set transparency - e.g. Downloaded topo overlaid on downloaded satellite.

Ive used both. I had GAIA before they started into hunting overlays. Onx is better for hunting overall. Also, GAIA is located in silicon valley more or less. Most of their crew looks to be outdoor experienced, but not necessarily in the hunting world. That should matter where your money goes IMO.

That's not what I'm asking. With OnX all offline maps are shown so you can see where you are when traveling thru the unit. Basemap for example, only has a single offline map visible so as you travel, you need to pick another offline map that covers the area you are currently in.

started with gaia last year for my first elk hunt. now i'm prob only using 5% of all the options/technology they have, but it sure is easy to get started and relatively intuitive. waypoints and hikes are easily stored and found. and easier than any gps i've used (plus the larger phone screen vs gps units).

OnX old Plat4GE is what you want.

Discontinued, correct? Was it included with the SD card versions of OnX or something like that?

My workaround is to do everything else I need to in Google Earth from a scouting perspective, and then pop into Gaia or OnX as needed for private / public land.

When I'm in the field, it's all Gaia.

Have to go back and double check this, but pretty sure yes - you can download multiple maps and enable them for display at the same time. Doesn't have to be overlaid or different layers, could be different units side by side. You pick the zoom / detail level and number of tiles to download. Storage is limited only by storage on your device.

I use both. I prefer a lot of the Gaia features, but I’ve had trouble with it crashing on me before so I don’t trust it 100%.

OnX has great simplicity in the 3 layers. I find it is a little more reliable and if there is private land anywhere near my hunt area then I will absolutely rely on it primarily; but I still run both.

You can’t cheat the mountain

I had the premium membership last year and liked it a lot. The only thing that kind of sucked was the old sat images. I might try onx this year just to compare.
