What are peoples experiences with the mega meats? Heard some people have had the r blades not open fully from hair, thinking of using them in an upcoming elk hunt in wy

Personally, I think it really depends on your setup. What's your draw weight, length and bow IBO? What's your arrow setup?

Personally, I'd rather shoot something like a 125 Sevr 1.5 hybrid or 1.75 hybrid or Evolution Hyde 150 at an elk if was was shooting a mechanical. Or a Deatmeat V2 1.5".

I agree with the above first few questions and would echo what Bump79 said.

A mega meat wouldn’t be my first choice for elk and I have a 31” draw shooting 75lbs, 501 gr arrow at 295 fps for reference. I have used the dead meats with awesome success on elk and would recommend them.

I've used the Mega Meats for the last few years. I really like them, but just like Bump79 said...I think you need a little horsepower behind them. 505gr arrow rolling around 280FPS...used on a big ass hog (roughly 600lbs, heart shot at 30yds,buried to opposite side ribs), corsican ram, many white tails, a orxy bull, a NM black bear...all worked great and they open a giant hole. I did have a jacked up shoulder for one season and dropped the bow weight down to 60lbs. That set up did not pass through deer. It worked and the few I shot died pretty quick but I did not get the pass throughs I was getting shooting 74lbs.

Never shot them and have only handled one. Pulled it out of a bull's shoulder meat. One blade was bent and it didn't look like it opened at all. No idea what that arrow setup was.

Antelope and whitetails, it’s a great choice. I’ve shot them for 3 years now and love them. Tougher skinned stuff, dead meat gets my vote.
