Losing meat keeps me up at night.

What is your current security system/smart home setup? There are a few ways to integrate. If you share what you currently have someone could suggest ideas.

I have a Konnected system and use the Wifi temp sensor. I set it up to text me if it gets above a certain temperature. This system was kind of a pain to set up but I converted my entire wired monitored home security to this system so I have full control. Not sure if I'd recommend this system but the wifi temp sensor is a must!

Why do you need battery powered? The cold will eat the battery fast and you risk it being dead when you need it.
You can run the wire and just close the door. The gasket is almost airtight. You have an outlet available for the freezer anyways. What am I missing?

Yeah I considered that. I know the battery can be an a major issue at freezing temps. I’d be ok with a plug in unit , I’d just need to test it and make sure it sealed.

Following, my kids unplugged my freezer once and I lost quite a bit of meat. Like a fool I never did put counter measures in place to prevent it from happening again. So looking forward to the options.

I use the temp stick from ideal science. Tried another cheaper brand and it was a POS. Works great for me.

Yeah, that looks nice . Although it’s $150. Ultimately a cheap price for all the meat I have frozen at the moment. No complaints on jt ?

I have the "WSDCAM Freezer Door Alarm" from Amazon on my freezer that I purchased and installed in November of 2018. Still going strong. Simple design, easy to install and the alarm is pretty loud. I paid $14 for it.

I looked into those after the door on our freezer was cracked open all day after something inside kept it from closing completely. They all seemed to have reviews that were all over the place. I ended up just getting a child safety lock like this one
I figure it makes it obvious if it’s not completely closed, I also put some tape over the plug so someone doesn’t accidentally unplug it not knowing it needs to stay plugged. A buddy of mine freezes half a paper cup of water and then lays it on it’s side so he knows when he gets back from a trip if the power was off long enough to thaw everything. I do like the Wi-Fi monitor idea though and am interested to hear about a decent one.

B-Hyve ... measures both temp and water leaks. They also make great sprinkler timers etc. All of them use the same simple app to control.

I've had them in place for about a year and a half. They've worked flawlessly and are still on the original batteries.

I have this plugged into the same outlet as the freezer. If the breaker trips (freezer is on outlets in garage and I might not always catch that the breaker tripped for them), this device will beep continuously until its battery dies. I have a camera in the garage that I monitor once a day while on vacation to hear any beeping.

Reliance Control Corporation Power Fail Light W/Alarm by Reliance Controls MfrPartNo THP207M, 1, Multi https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018A30T8...t_i_X10WV52RZVEN5K42CQB2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I also have a remote temp sensor in the fridge with the display on my kitchen fridge door. You can set it to alarm at whatever temperature you choose. Mine will start alarming at 10 deg. Freezer normally stays at 0 deg.

I know this isn't wifi alerts but the system is better than nothing.

If you’re out of town and the alarm is on WiFi and the neighborhood power goes out, how will it let you know?
Not sure if you're replying to me as my alarm system is not wifi. I just use my garage camera to check in every now and then to see if I hear that beeping noise from the Reliance plug in outage alert.

Some power companies have text alerts if your power goes out. Mine is one of them.

The battery is outside.

His concern was having to run a wire to the outside when he could use an internal battery.

In my experience closing the door on the wire still seals the gasket fine so either the external battery or plugged into an outlet would be fine. No benefit in this case to a battery IMO since you have an outlet handy for the freezer anyways.

No. I was just replying to the WiFi topic in general. I was just wondering how a router that’s plugged in would send an alarm if the power goes out.

My phone alerts me when it is no longer connected to my wifi alarm when the power is out. I have an Inkbird 308 and have been happy with it.

Unfortunately it doesn't work when my wife pulls a box of meat out of the freezer, sets it on the work bench to grab something else and forgets to put it back in the freezer.

Yeah. But if you’re in Hawaii and no family or friends nearby, well, you’re screwed anyways! haha

But I get the gist! Many years ago we lost a whole freezer full when power went out. 🤮
