Edited the title to get the newbies to read it.

All,

The final proposed season structure is available here:

Please take a look and if you have concerns or are happy with it email the commission before their 7/18-19 meeting in Telluride. As a mule deer hunter I'm concerned with the push back of season dates for 3rd and 4th rifle seasons in particular. I don't think we can be hunting bucks after Thanksgiving and maintain the quality mule deer hunting Colorado is known for. 3rd season dates will be more like 4th season dates in some years and you know that tag numbers will not be adjusted to reduce harvest.

I'm not thrilled about archery opener getting pushed back to 9/2 but I can live with that. It may hurt the hunting but won't hurt the resource like the rifle dates will.

I’m definitely commenting. As an archery deer hunter I was hoping they would keep the deer opener the same and just change the elk dates. Also not excited about the rifle dates as mentioned. Everyone needs to comment! Especially if you agree with my thoughts ha

Yea looks like the cpw wants to kill off all the big bucks...

Archers got royally screwed if this goes through. Seems the Cba only cares about keeping elk otc so no help there.. Push elk season back at the expense of deer hunters was their chosen path.....

Hunting bucks that late in November not only for the 3rd but also the 4th will change the age class of bucks in Colorado for the next decade or more...

Yea time to send a email on this one if you care about upper age class bucks in Colorado.

With those dates, the 3rd season buck harvest will be off the charts for the first few years, with 4th season cleaning up whats left. What is the deal with CPW wanting the elk and deer to get hammered during the rut?

Special interests run the CPW nick and the commercial outfitters pushed for this big time. Unfortunate that the cpw caters to them so much.

CBA wants an earlier start for the archery deer hunt.

From what I saw the cba pushed mainly for elk to remain otc at any and all costs... They also spent very little to any time - addressing the deer starting date... Sticks with the cba - board direction of keep elk otc at any cost and make sure to change the days to better elk days closer to the rut even if it screws up the deer. As this is what happened.

Flat out more crowding, more point creep, then screw the deer hunters as long as we (the Cba board) get our elk dates, this is what the cba is about these days and then they wonder why folks can’t agree 1000000% with their “direction” to protect otc elk hunting for aging folks at any cost even if it means screwing up deer hunting in the process.

Sometimes you have to call a spade a spade....

It looks to me like the CPW moved the target. Options 1-3 all had an early start for the deer season, so why would the CBA hammer on it? The initial alternatives made the early start look like a given.

CPW chose option 1, then dropped the deer start to be the same as elk.

It seems to me that you are upset about the deer seasons and blaming the CBA when it's likely the CPW.

Never hunted CO, but from what I've gathered 2020 would be a good time to burn a few points for 3rd season mulies?

Guys, this is bad. Please take time to do something. I'm not typically a doom and gloomer but I feel like we are watching Colorado ruin the best mule deer hunting in the country right before our eyes in slow motion. If we don't comment or show up we can't cast blame.

Email comments are due by 7/15. [email protected]

Hey long who’s idea was it to change the start day anyway??? It was pushed by who?? Looking forward to your next screenshot lol..

Truth is archery deer hunters were sent down the river by the elk faction with little to no input. Only one group pushed this...

Spades are still spades...

From goHunt:

"These are the pretty much the final recommendations and are mostly set in stone, but could potentially change when they hit the commission meeting on July 18 in Telluride. The commission could change these dates, but usually, they don't, as this process has already gone through a lengthy process and the main public comment period deadline of July 3 is already over."

I posted the alternatives we were all provided and the response of the CBA to the selected modified alternative.

Sorry it doesn't jive with your take.

Maybe someone should have pointed out that now after the fact the cba is now attempting to get the deer moved to aug 25 start... It was obvious from the beginning cpw did not want to give deer hunters a extra week.. Or I guess the cba is trying as so long as it does not disrupt the later elk start. = spades.

In reality deer hunters were railroaded by the elk faction to a later start and a f it is bad for deer hunters so be it or a sacrifice worth making.

Again spades from where I sit.

With this in mind I bet the return rate on tags will be high this year. If I didn't already have my 2nd season tag I'd be keeping an eye on the leftover list. There will be some good 3rd season tags on there.

Do you think the outfitters are pushing the late rifle start dates? I would think they would realize the diminishing return on mule deer from this. I wouldn't think the late dates help them with elk. Unfortunate.

Edit: I just looked at those dates again and it makes sense now, people would turn in their 3rd season tags and wait until 2021 to get a 3rd, when the start date is basically the current 4th season start date. Next year wouldn't make much sense.

Today is the last day to submit email comments. Don’t accept that it will be rubber stamped, if they are inundated with emails not in support of the changes they will at least discuss. Don’t be lazy.

So did these season dates get voted in? I have been checking the cpw website for updates but there seems to be no new information. Just the alternatives pdf.
