I’ve got a new to me 28 gauge and I’ve really been liking it. Carrying in the woods a breeze. I’m wondering if anybody has some good turkey loads they like that are not TSS. Also a recommendation on chokes.

Listening to the Southern Outdoorsmen podcast, there are some old timers out there shooting 2 3/4 inch, 7 1/2 to #9 lead loads out of fixed barrel single shot 12 gauges. They're just limiting themselves to 30 yards or less.

I guess you could always go that route. I'd still be inclined to go TSS unless your model is too old.

Just run some 4-5 shot lead pheasant loads and a full choke. You will have no problem killing turkeys to 40 yards. Never have shot TSS or a turkey choke and have bagged roughly 2 dozen turkeys with a 20 gauge AL 48 with a fixed full. 28 vs 20 is negligible.

TSS is a whole new world when you can literally double to triple you pellet count with same penetration in 10” circle.

TSS does better with LM chokes

It’s a waste of money in 20 and 12 but equalizer in 28 and 410

Yeah I have a full choke and 5 shot pheasant. Just seeing if I’m missing something to give me a little more. I refuse to pay for TSS.
or you can sell me that gun :) I am always looking for them
I’m really liking it so far, so I can’t see myself selling it haha

The boss copper plated bismuth waterfowl loads patterns well. Called CUPROX SHOTSHELLS

$40 per 20

Biggest difference in TSS is you are almost tripling pellet count when going #5 lead to #9 TTS. Not a big deal in a 12 or 20 but is in 28/410
