1. Print the air photos of your hunting area as photos, the definition and detail is much better then any ink jet or laser...Costco and Walmart are your cheap cousins

2. Commercial carpet hook knife - this very blade/hook has done 2 blacktails, 1 bear and one muley and is still stupid sharp. This is the lightest glade holder I could find. You could wrap an blade in foil and tape for stupid light.

3. What I call "micro-flags" meant to be seen by you and not others, made from reflective guy line so in the dark they glow, stand out like you wouldn't believe when you hit them with a light.

4. "Turtle light" - from the Canadian REI (MEC), little lights that are one bulb, or two, white or red with constant or flashing. Always carried as emergency in white and red, found a new use this year packing out a muley. Hung one up by the kill as dark set in, talk about super easy to find your way back!

Nothing earth shattering, just thought worth sharing.

Very best,

Ian

Thanks for the tip on the carpet knife. I have been trying to find a light weight blade that I can carry to make a quick zip up the hide to begin skinning and looks like I'll have to give that a try next year.

I have been using the carpet blade for close to 10yrs now. I'm still looking for the perfect lightweight blade holder. Who makes the yellow blade holder and where did you buy it?

What kind of line? Where can one find it?

jmsdad, I get mine at TAPS Plastics for $1.99. TAP Plastics are located throughout the Bay area and available online. Like you know, works great! Lucky enough to use it on my archery bull this year. Started breaking him down at 9PM and finished at 1PM....solo. Also used the break-off straight blades and got greedy. Overextended the break-off blade to the max for the second back strap and snapped it off at the "hilt." Will probably use the Havalon baracuta for the deep cuts next season.

Holder is an Olfa I got from acklands-Grainger, bet Amazon will stock it. Mam going to try wrapped in foil then electrical tape that lines up with the hook breaks, like a zipper it's amazing

Guy cord I get at my local mountain store by the meter. Any reflective guy cord will work

What king of line? Where can one find it?

I did this this year with reflective para-cord rather than guyline. Bought it from Lowes, and I'm sure it's available lots of other places. As mentioned, an 8" piece hung in the brush is invisible during the day, but can be picked up by headlamp from way out at night Besides it's use as trail flagging, it's also a great way to mark specific spots you might want to find in the dark, such as creek crossings or a trail intersection. We used it to flag the route between camp and the lake where we would get water after dark.

The advantage to reflective paracord is that it can be used for all the normal uses of paracord also. Just cut a short piece off when you need to mark things. Although guyline isn't bad either in that respect.
