Couldn't really say because I put the meat in contractor bags or dry sacks so its not going to breath while its in there. One other minor complaint. The sleeping bag compartment is huge. I use a 15 degree synthetic bag and it swallows it up. I like to have that compartment full to keep most of the weight high so I generally load everything , including sleeping bag in the upper section and just use the sleeping bag compartment when I carry meat and sometimes I don't use it then. This pack was the largest they made at the time but I'm sure a person could get it however you wanted. Honestly, I can't imagine that it carries heavy loads so much better than a Kifaru or Stone Glacier, packs that are designed for hunters, that it would be worth the extra cost. Those two are expensive enough.
