Thoughts?

first off, how many people have you hired to count your bags of money?

he has some points in the broad brush spectrum, it's frustrating seeing people give information that have no experience with what they are discussing and arguing with people that do, because some people don't care about sharing bad info, they just want to be right.... forums would be better if people stayed in their lane.

i think his biggest problem with forums is thin skin, that's not the fault of forums, that's his deal.

i was wondering if he was the owner of Akek when he started in, now i'm not sure :ROFLMAO:

if a forum is holding you back, probably shouldn't blame the forum, he's mixing up the blame... people need to have some accountability instead of blaming EVERYTHING but themselves... it's the forums fault!!!

i'm only on a couple (this is the best one by far i have found) and that's the extent of social media. i'm a nobody with thick skin, so forums aren't detrimental to me, and nobody is forcing anyone to be here or on any other forum....

mama says internet forums are the devil!! i think that guy would be better off thickening his skin a bit.

I got about 15 mins in and was done. Basically what I got out of it, "Don't go to Snipershide."
i think forums died to him when he eventually put every single member on every forum on his ignore list, he made a safe space for himself, but he lost interaction with everyone that bent his feelers.

the ignore feature always cracked me up on forums, and threats of being put on theirs... if i ever feel the need, i will kick myself in the nuts for being a girl and walk away

From my perspective…..one area that could use some improvement, by a large percentage of people posting on the forums, is to provide context, supporting data or sharing actual experiences. As opposed to simply making statements or telling others what gear (or whatever) you’re using.

This gives the reader an opportunity to understand the reasoning or purpose behind what is being shared by the person posting. At that point, the reader can determine if the new information is of value to them, or not.

There’s almost no value in telling other people what to do/think/try/buy/etc. without providing any substance.

When someone puts in the effort to share a thoughtful post…..please don’t berate them if you have a difference of opinion or something seems wrong or strange. Instead, ask follow up questions for clarification or provide information back to them by sharing your own experiences, in a way that could apply to them and be of value to them.

This may sound a little preachy. That’s not my intent. But rather, the goal is to foster a place where people who have valuable information/ insights to share will want to hangout and people who are hungry to learn can find quality information.

that is exactly how a forum should operate, and while we're not perfect by any stretch, those are the conversations we try to encourage.

Know-it-alls are so 1990..., all of us can learn from someone if we keep an open mind, even if we learn they're wrong

Thoughts?

agreed with a just a few points, like the know-it-alls not letting any new ideas be discussed. That can be a problem but as you know, we try to stifle that on here.

Other than that, seemed a little clickbaity (come to my Youtube channel). The guy knows his gun stuff, but not everyone has to agree.

The times of providing context for your opinion are long passed us unfortunately.....people can post defamatory and untruthful posts causing harm anonymously and move on. I have 2 teenagers.....I asked them about a post on a forum, they both looked at me like 'what the who'? :) Similar at work, early 20 something's......forums are so 2012.....lol

BS forums are dead or dying, which is a good thing. There are still some good informational forums out there, like this one. But what ever you do, don't take what people say as gospel, check it out before you act on it. Another forum I still visit now and again, I'm one of the few who does, had some members who put out incorrect information knowing well, it was not correct, maybe they just did to see what kind of reaction they would get. One guy, a moderator, knew everything about everything and on top of that he knew things that are yet to be know. He was amazing.

I did not watch 1 second of the video.
That said, I agree with the title, forums are dying.
Or rather, they are dying in the way of good content.
The girly bitching will always continue on.
Someone mentioned Snipers Hide. I haven't been there in years. But over a decade and a half ago when I first got into LR shooting, you bet your ass I was there. A long with many other good people.
The same can also be said for Rockslide. It was much better in the early years. I'm sorry to the Rokslide owners, but they know it too.
I'm not on Fbook anymore. Never been on Snapchat, Instagram or any other social media. Just forums.
Forums in general unfortunately, have gotten to the point you can't really believe what you read. Too many know it alls, blowhard, etc.
Forums are trending to the obsolete side. I don't like it, but it is what it is.

Forms scope tests are a very unique asset to this website. If the owners can continue to come up with ideas like that, they will have "the edge".

I think all forums fade into obscurity, just the way of things. They outgrow their usefulness, get over run with advertising, and just lose touch with the core reason of their beginning.
My teenagers think forums are just what Dad’s and old people do, like Dad jokes.

They just need to post a free backpack or spread rumors about a famous hunter and they will up their numbers in no time!

I don't know the secret sauce of forum management or how the rokslide owners run things behind the scenes, but assume it's art and science and this member likes how they are doing it.

IMHO hunting/shooting forums seem to attract and retain a....um....ah....let's say a type of person who may feel more capable (vs. "be" capable) than they are in real life. I'm sure that's true on rokslide was well and the word I've heard used is "aspirational" as in: Someone aspires to be a badass Speical Operator but isn't, they hang out with their 'bros' on, say, Snipershide so they can feel like one, they keep coming back but have to make sure they're in agreement with whoever the alphas are on the site so they can stay on board. I don't mean to shame people like that, it's sad and they deserve more in life.

I didn't watch the video, but assume he was bullied on various forums, felt shamed to the point of making a video and has applied his opinion and experience as if it was a fact of life for everyone.

Here's a have a partial solution that will make me a tech billionaire asap: expand the "emoji response" options with other written categories vs. just thumbs up and faces. The written categories would have to have a counter next to them for how many times people clicked the option. Add things like "your opinion isn't a fact" "where's your data, bro?" "well thought out!" "post your source" "thanks for not being a tool" "you're being a tool" "get professional help asap!" and others. Actually, dumb idea. It would shame some people off of a forum quickly but turn into a communist/controlled 'society'.

Anyway, I'm thankful for this and other forums, assume well run ones will thrive and people will come and go based on the quality of their participation. The dude's video is his experience, not fact

Eh. Persecution been going on for over 2000 years. Not expecting some flack over different ideas is fairly naive. Some folks just need a binky and blanket
