I was given the opportunity to run this setup for my November Idaho deer hunt.

The weather is starting to look nasty up north, so it should see plenty of moisture to give it a solid test. I run old man size 🤣, 5’7” 160 and run a large for every company I wear gear for and a medium/large on pants. I ordered a large jacket and it fits perfect. The pants were a choice between a 34 or 36 and as they run an athletic cut and noted to size up, I ordered the 36 and it was the correct choice.

I have worn the pants on several day hikes I do with Odin and can say they are very breathable and dry quickly from any sweat. Venting on the legs is a staple these days and that for sure helps on the climbs.

The jacket has not seen any real use, but one item I like is the cut on the wrist. It sweeps down the hand to give a little further coverage, versus the standard cut. I can see where this would help keep the hand a little warmer in colder conditions than a standard straight cut.

I will be posting updates each week and looking forward to my deer hunt. Nick Skally from Forloh will be following along so ask away on your questions and thoughts🤙

Looking forward to your update. I have brown partial to pants that vent. I have also brown partial to mesh lined vents after running the first lite foundry pants a bit last year and having some “intrusions”. A stick poking in your bare upper thigh can be surprisingly annoying. Those vents look like they are cut high enough to get a little sassy. Better be careful with what type of underwear you do or don’t wear on that trip.

I wore these pants about 12 days in august caribou hunting on the north side of the brooks and about 14 days in September in Montana. At first I was mad about not being able to take the knee pads out but by the end of my first day I had changed my mind. The hip vents are awesome, I used them a lot and had no trouble using them with my Kifaru pack belt on. The previous few seasons I’d been wearing Sitka Ascent pants and to me there’s no contest between the two. I’m 6’ even and around 235lb and wear the the 36 tall. All my other pants and jeans are usually 33-34 waist and 36-38 length. These are the best hunting pants I’ve had. My only criticism would be to make the front pockets a little deeper, but overall these pants are awesome.

I’ve had the soft shell jacket for a little over a year but haven’t worn it hunting enough to say much but I have no complaints and happy with it so far.

I also bought the long sleeve hooded light shirt (can’t remember the name) with insectashield? and wore it the whole time both places. There were times when the two other guys had their mosquito nets on in AK and about to loose their minds and I just pulled my hood up and had no trouble, I was pretty surprised by that! I don’t know how long it will last but the 10$ I paid for it was well worth it.

I have the light hooded zip up jacket too and my only complaint with the shirt and the jacket is the white inside the hood. Please do something about that. Overall I’m very happy with all my forloh stuff that’s taken the place of my over priced slave made Sitka stuff. And I hope forloh comes out with a synthetic jacket along the lines of the kelvin active jacket. Until then I’m keeping that overpriced slave made piece.

Anyone else had many issues with the hip vent mesh getting stuck in the zipper? I've torn a few holes in the mesh trying to zip them open/closed.

Hip vents are sizable and give you a nice little breeze🤣 @dlee56 I have found I need to be a little more careful zipping and unzipping the vents as I have gotten the zip material stuck several times as well…no holes yet but something to be aware of…Had a good chance today to test how the gear does in wet weather. Typical pnw November rain and 40 a good hike with Odin. I can say I stayed a lot drier than he did🤣🤙 90 minutes stayed dry, with a good bead up on the jacket…put my phone in the chest pocket and it stayed dry and the back of my legs were very dry as I was walking into the rain most of the hike…this weekend north Idaho is gong to be wet and wild with a good wind storm with a mixture of rain and snow. Will see how we do on a few all day hunts.

3 Days out in north Idaho looking for muleys 6 small bucks and everything Mother Nature could throw at us…heavy snow 60 mph winds and then heavy rain down low🤙 The jacket performed very solid shedding the mixture of elements keeping me dry and keeping the wind out. The pants did as well but can say going from 30 to 15 degrees and building up some sweat you likely will get chilled when you stop and or slow down as the interior of the pant will get that clammy feeling till it dries out..once at elevation i through my puffy pants on and was good..also the front pockets are deep enough but if you have large hands it will be very snug fit against the zippers..overall performing very good and on to the next round.

I've been using their pants all season here in MT and been real happy with them. They breath well when hiking, warm when sitting still. Hunted a new spot the other day and did nothing but fight with thick deadfall on steep terrain in knee deep snow. It sucked. I fell off several logs ass first and got covered in snow. The pants kept me dry inside and out. I'm 5'8 with a 34 waist and the 34 size fit perfect.

Just read the review. Thanks for writing it. I feel similarly about the pants. I don’t have the soft shell, yet. I have the down jacket and a down vest. One in green and one in grey- both are great colors and look nice for everyday use.

After wearing my pants and jacket for a year, I would agree with your review. I am curious if your jacket had the newer extended velcro so you did not have a huge tag in hanging in the air when closing the cuff tightly.
I paid $40 bucks to Forloh to modify my jacket for this reason and was told the "newer" jackets will come with this on them.

That being said, I am losing faith in the company. Their focus on celebrity influencers, deep sea fishing, raising prices often and the pack release without hardcore backpack hunter feedback, to then try and market to that person and the Rokslide thread about it failed horribly.

Good review, I’ve got both and fully agree.
And their customer service may be the best of any company I’ve dealt with. I had a small issue with the jacket and they sent me a free shipping label to print and said if they can’t fix it they’ll replace the jacket. No questions asked, just taking care of business as advertised.

I recently had a warranty issue with a pack company that is very popular here. They admitted fault but sense I’d made a modification to the bag ( that had nothing to do with the failure) they would not warranty it. So then I have to get all pissed off and go 1/2 redneck in an email. The boss called me (which I really appreciated) explained that my modification created an access issue. Ah ok, understood. So I said how about I remove the modification, then will you fix it? Yes, we will absolutely fix it then. Awesome, thanks.

So to summarize all that, some company’s you have to find the solution for them and pay for the shipping when their stuff has a warranty issue. So far forloh is not one of them. So thank you forloh for doing exactly what you say you’ll do and paying for the shipping if and when a issue comes up.
