Forest Service HQ Move

How would that work for multiple national forests in one state?
That I’m not entirely sure. Maybe it is where the majority of the land base is for that forest. In this map the areas back east are only going to have one office for many states much like the old regions.

The US Government is not a company (yet)...however for corporations, a move like this would typically lose at least 70% of HQ employees as they would be unwilling to relocate.

Straight from the horse’s mouth.

Looks like the Auburn, Alabama “state” office will be responsible for the Ozarks and Ouachitas as well as all the gulf coast states.

While they say any offices not listed for closure here are currently under evaluation, and I think the impact varies state-by-state, it looks like my neck of the woods is getting shafted. Unless they’re keeping district offices open as well.

The more I think about it, I think the SLC airport was probably an influential factor in the placement. Plus, Salt Lake is pretty centralized to the rest of the West.

In my experience as a former seasonal employee, the change came in the 70s when management went from district to one size fits all. Silvaculture went away as well as long term planning. Selective cutting changed to coastal massive clearcuts that totally destroyed ecosystems.

Its time to start over and you might have to work on the forestry schools. You have nothing left now so change is unknown but I don't see the path yet.
