Ford Vs Dodge Half Tons

I'm looking at buying a new truck.

I currently have 2020 F-150 and have been an F-150 guy for 15+ years.

The smoother ride of the Dodge 1500's has me intrigued with the rear suspension not having leaf springs.

I have never had mechanical issues with my Ford's, I'm just looking for a smoother ride so my back doesn't hurt when I hit a pot hole going 50 on a dirt road.

If you have had both....give me your thoughts..

I personally think the Chevy 1500 have a better ride than the dodges... if you want comfort.

We have 3 chevys 2022 and newer at work. With the recent ford mechanical issues, I would strongly consider a Chevy 1500.

They all make crap these days whatever you get make sure you buy the extended warranty. My 10sp tranny and t case was replaced at 60k on my 250, one buddy has a Tundra, he is in que for the engine replacement, and another buddy has a 6.2 in his truck and his wife's Tahoe, one is getting replace and the other they just changed the oil type.. I don't know how they Chevy rep sold that deal to him with a straight face. Two vechiles with same motor one needs replaced and one just needs a different type of oil...smh
Don't even get me started will all the electronic BS on newer vechiles.

I’m on my 3rd ram in a row, no serious issues but I also don’t drive trucks until they fall apart. I agree on the ride, it’s better than the ford and so is the interior but the Chevy/gmc is probably the best. My complaint with them was the 5.3 felt considerably weaker to me than both the hemi and 5.0 (haven’t converted to a turbo).

Recently made the switch from GM products to a Ford. Couldn’t be happier. Bought a new 3.0 Duramax last year, truck made it 2,300 miles and sat in the dealers lot for 192 days with no know idea on how to fix it. The 10 speed transmission in the new GMC trucks always seemed to shift extremely rough to me. With the crappy GMC customer service I decided to try Ford.
I’ve always owned 3/4 ton trucks but the GMC 3.0 was my first 1/2 ton. With the Ford employee discount going on, I decided to settle on the 3.5 Powerboost Lariat. And I’m glad I did. Such a smoother ride than the GMC. Crazy power, no rough feel of the transmission shifting like the GMC. Fuel mileage isn’t amazing, but it’s a truck.
I can’t speak for a Ram but few guys I know who own them love em. If buying a GM stay away from the 3.0 and the 6.2. Buy the 5.3.

The Ram 1500 with the new Hurricane 3.0 engine is an intriguing truck. But the thought of buying a truck with a newly developed motor is scary also.

I’m surprised with all the GM suggestions. They’ve absolutely tanked in quality and have several class action lawsuits for the heaps of crap they are selling. My work truck is a 21 1500 and just had a fuel pump module fail at 25k miles.

I would stick with Ford. I just recently switched from a Tundra to a 2025 f150 tremor with the 5.0 and it’s been quite the upgrade in terms of creature comforts.

I would stick with Ford. Get the V8 with their Coyote engine. You can upgrade your shocks. Or, get the Raptor if you have the coin.

By the way, absolutely love my two pairs of gaiters and bino harness from T&K.

I was a chevy truck guy all my life....and I'm a boomer...but last year went to Ford and I'm very happy with it. I just got tired of the problems and the rusted out body panels in 5 years. Ford got it right by going with aluminum construction. The 6.7 Diesel is just awesome. The only Dodge I ever had was a 2003 2500HD with the 5.9 Diesel that I sold to my brother 6 months ago. It's a great truck but I don't think I would buy a new one...but I think the new ones are better than a new chevy.

First off, Dodge is not the answer. Those trucks are absolute garbage (brand new ones). They are sitting on several years worth of inventory across all of Ram, which is why they are releasing the 10 year 100k mile warranty. Because if they dont do something they might be in really big trouble.

Secondly, anyone telling you to avoid Ford and go Chevy or vice versa is being dishonest for one very important reason. The current brand new truck market is all junk. The Chevys are blowing engines sub 10k miles. The Fords are losing trannys. Everything and anything is going wrong with Dodge.

That being said every F150 I have driven has rode like a dream. Every Chevy I have driven I am left wondering why some people love them so much. This is just my personal experience and opinion.

If I was in a position to buy a new truck right now id bee looking at a late teens F150 with a 5.0.

They are all a crap shoot these days. I've only driven Dodge/Cummins since 1991 and have never had any significant issues. Former boss had a new Chevy with the 6.2. Engine crapped out at 21k miles and it sat at the dealer from December to next July before they got a new engine in it. Haven't tried a Ford so can't offer anything there. Pick one and if it doesn't work out, get rid of it imo!

Stick with Ford man. Better yet find a 10 yo one with low mileage and buy that. The newer they are the more stupid tech/modules/AI they will have to fail on you and disable the truck. Buy old and keep em running.

I've owned everything except the Nissan and all of my buddies own trucks so I ride in all of them regularly.

I currently own a Ram 1500 Limited with the 5.7L [about 76,000mi] with the air ride and it has been flawless. It is the second best riding truck I have driven. It's pretty close to the Raptor which is the smoothest. [Note the Raptor has a much lowered towing capability- pretty much worthless for towing anything]

I only know of one friend with the new Ram Hurricane motor in a Titanium and he says it tows his 5,000# boat better than the 5.7 Ram 1500 Limited he had and gets marginally better mileage.

The new F150 eco boost trucks ride nice, about 80% of my truck. I worry about the longevity of that dual turbo if you work it hard.

Tundra has been the roughest but can be fixed with Coilovers.

GM Silverado and GMC Sierra is slightly worse than Ford and it's probably because the seats are hard and get uncomfortable on long drives. GM has the worst seats in the industry but those can probably be reworked.
