I'm looking at doing a custom order from Ford and would like to know if anyone on here has any experience doing the same in recent years and can maybe offer some pointers or suggestions on items I'm not thinking about.
I started shopping by looking at dealer inventory, but there are very few long bed F-250 that hit all of my must-have items. To get everything I want, I'd have to go with an upper end Lariat, which is pretty steep on price and includes a lot of features that I won't use or don't want. Out of curiosity, I used the Ford builder website and built a Lariat with a few tech upgrades like 6.7 HO engine and 3.31 electric locker in the rear. The option to do a carpet delete and have imitation leather seats is also quite favorable to me. The msrp listed on the website is lower than most inventory Lariats. I reached out to a few dealers to inquire about the custom order process and pricing. The price they gave me is $10-$12k less than something on the lot that would work for me. The only downside is that it'll be 2-6 months before the rig is delivered and I can take ownership.
Anyhow, I'm pretty sure I'm going to go this route. I've spent hours on the Ford website browsing upgrades, and I've been watching YT vids, but I figured I'd ask here as well. Are there any features that you ordered on yours that you find to be worth the money? Anything that isn't worth the expense? Even for those that went with models on the lot, What extras do you like about your pickup, and what would you have rather done without and saved money on?
