Ford F-150 reliable?

I am looking at getting a new truck and I have noticed the Ford F-150's have come down in price. I am looking at couple years old, 20-22 and my main concern is reliability. I do know I want V8 and 4-wheel drive, all other things are extras which I don't really care about. What is everyone's thoughts on these fords?

I am on my 4th F150 in a row. I generally run them up to 80K or so. 2014, 2017, 2020, 2023
I have never had a single one in the shop for anything!
Probably should not have verbalized that but dang they have been awesome.
My only major bitch with Ford is you have to buy up to a Lariat to get 4WD Auto

2018 F150 2.7 ecoboost. 135,000KM on it. $5500cdn in the last 10 days. 10 speed tranny has an issue with the drum that fails, think its from 2017 - 2022 models, but some research will confirm. Total bill $4800 after negotiations the number with Ford. $500 to fix one of FIVE leaking points. Major leak was drain failure from AC/condensation drain. All other leak locations known issues with the F150. I chose to bounce them down the road since I think I can fix 2 myself. Will attempt at least before paying $1k to have them fixed. All leaks due to shitty install methods or parts.

The 10 speed trans had some issues up through mid ‘23, something with the CDF drum leaking fluid pressure past the mating surfaces or something. It’s supposedly been fixed moving forward. It’s not an if thing, it’s a when it fails kind of thing. Just plan for it and you’ll get the updated parts when the repair happens. Plus if you have the repair done at a ford dealership it’ll come with a 100k mile warranty.

Late 2020 f150 3.5 eco, 115,000 miles. The only time it's been to the shop is to take it back and bitch because they overfilled the tranny when they replaced the fluid. I knew better having replaced it myself previously. Other than the overfill, not a single leak nor drip.
Fantastic vehicle, lots of uber miles and it just keeps humming along. Long trips to WY and AZ are comfortable. Mileage does drop when you stick 10 ply tires on it so I run the factory 4 ply cheapies most of the year. Add some Superhide seat covers and it should be good for many years.

I bought a used 2021 in later 2022. V6 ecoboost. Zero issues so far. Drives super comfy. Lots of room inside. There's no need for a v8 unless you get a diesel. Just my opinion.

I have a 2017 2.7ltr with the 6 speed...so far so good. I struggle to get better than 18mpg (I do run 10ply and a topper 24/7) otherwise so far so good with 103,000 miles. I replaced the front wheel hubs at 85K due to a wheel bearing so I replaced them both and did a brake job last fall...I did both myself with basic tools.

2016 F150 with 123,000 miles on it now. The only “major” repair i’ve ever had done was a wheel bearing for like $1000. I plan to drive it to 300,000 because with the Aluminum body it essentially looks like the day i bought it. I looked under the bed once a couple years ago and it looks brand new.

Let’s say somewhere down the road it needs a few thousand dollars in repairs that is tens of thousands of dollars cheaper than a new one.

Buts it’s been a great truck with no issues outside the wheel bearing a couple years ago. I’d buy another in a heart beat over the other options out there.

I have a 2020 Lariat 2.7 eco that has been a royal pain in the ass. I've replaced ignition coils twice, swapped plugs twice, replaced the rear differential bearings, and am scheduled for a full transmission rebuild, all before 100k.

It depends how you define it. I would say quasi reliable. Better than the boosted option but behind others.

Late model 2017 started the 10 Spd. They are finally getting that sorted.
2018 also saw the 5.0 engine get much less reliable "oil burning for one" as well as the second gen 2.7 that got more power but got less reliable

the best all-around F150 as far as reliability is the aluminum trucks 2015- early 2017
Either the 2.7L or 5.0L

Also, anyone that says the 2.7 Ecoboost sucks, doesn't know shit.

I tell people all the time to not be scared of the nano. First glance, it's a little weird to have a 2.7 in a full size truck but that thing shits and gets.

Buddy of mine works at a Ford Dealer. His suggestion if buying an F-150 is to buy the 5.0.
I had a 2012 with the 3.5. Was really a great truck but I bought it used and it already had most of the normal issues changed out like the Cam Phasers and both turbos at one point in its life.

My 2010 is getting close to 200,000 miles.
AC issue and transfer case issue, but overall good. Have some sort of leak around the rear window, even after replacing the third brake light (historical issue for that year model). Doing good overall, but thinking about getting an F250 soon.

2020 with 3.5. Almost 90K on it and its been flawless.

I put a 2 inch leveling kit and bigger 10 plys on it. It doesnt get great mileage but still pulls boat trailer or SxS or a 7 foot enclosed trailer like a dream. I didn't buy it for great gas mileage, it's for pulling and running gravel roads and hauling me and the dog all over the country to kill things and then haul them home.

The tow package has the bigger gearing and a 36 gallon tank. I'd recommend.

I do have the cam phaser rattle on start up and have for about 40K miles. Everyone has said the rattle doesn't mean whether they are going to have to be replaced, it is unpredictable.
