Ford F-150 reliable?

I have the 2018 Raptor with 117,000 miles on it. I have no idea what kind of maintenance the previous owner did to it since I bought it with 90k miles on it. The Cam Phaser rattle started just after I bought it, so I had those replaced at 95k.

I also purchased a COBB tuner to tune the transmission for smoother shifting. It used to have hard downshifts sometimes, but now it's great. We'll see how it goes as I stack the miles on it.

I get 17 MPG commuting 18 miles to work, and I love the 36-gallon tank.

This is by far my favorite truck that I've ever driven. I just installed Ikon leaf springs in the back to correct the ride height due to the weight of the RSI Smart cap and Decked drawers.

I've only had my 22 with the 3.5 for 2 months but with a mix of town, interstate and gravel I am getting 17-19 with 10 ply Hankooks.

I have a ‘23 3.5 with 18,000 miles. After level and 34” tires I’m getting 16-17 mpg on my work commute in ideal conditions. It will drop down 14 or so loaded down on the freeway. Prior to lift and tires I would average 18-21.

I have a 2020 2.7 I bought new. 49k miles, very little towing and nothing really heavy. I want to get trans fluid changed, but don't trust anybody. I've always done my own, but had a dipstick for refill. How big a job was it?

simple
oil change every 3-5k
transmission and rear diff every 30k
front diff before every winter, mine lives in 4wd
and transfer case every 50k

Buy an air brake bleeder and 16" of semi stiff clear hose from Ace, that goes inside the brake bleeder supplied rubber hose. Suck out the old, put in the new. My front diff has no drain port. Transmission filter should be replaced at 150 ish.
The dip stick on the 10speed is on the passenger side of the housing, 17mm wrench. Drive around doing the morning errands so it's warm, front tires up on a set of ramps, with it shut off, remove and replace the fluid. Start it up, check level on the plastic dip stick and continue to fill till you reach the correct level, with it running. The CAT is hot, keep your forearm off of it.

2023 with 275/70r18 Toyo RTs and getting 19-20.5 on the drive to work which is never over 60. Longer highway trips driving 80 it’ll drop to 17-18ish.

I have an 18 2.7 ecoboost with 104,000 miles. Xlt with upgraded offroad and electronics package. No issues so far except sometimes surge/turbo shifting from 3rd to 4th gear in the tranny and minor screen issues that just make me turn it off and back on. Odly enough when I had to replace the battery I saw a few small things improve.

Things I liked when I bought it- flat floorboard in the back with great fold up seats, rear diff locker, 34 gallon gas tank, bed lights and bed switch, synthetic easy to clean seats, very spacious especially with two kids and a dog.

I wish Id gotten the v8 as the ecoboost gas mileage hasnt lived up to the promise and to have a simpler engine. I dont tow and the engine and drivetrain have met my needs if not overkill. Im concerned about the tranny as others have mentioned. I have a friend who sold his as the tranny started to go. The aluminum body can get beat up in the backwoods. Overall Im very happy and will keep an eye on things as it ages.

That’s great. Can’t say to what condition my friend kept his truck in and he did do some light towing which may have put some additional stress on needing to replace the turbo.

Ford started to use a belt to run the oil pump. How long will a belt last in oil before it starts to come apart and clogs the up the pickup tube?

A contractor I worked with bought 8 brand new 2023 f-150s for his business, I don’t remember what the motor was I think it was a eco boost. All 8 were in and out of the shop before any of them hit 50k miles.

2015 5.0l that has been a great truck so far. 167,000 km to date. Great mileage for a pickup too, typically over 20 mpg (around 12 l/100km).

My 2018 2.7 10 speed truck has 168k and has been great. I've only owned it for 20k miles of its life but so far so good. 10 ply tires did drop my overall average by about 1 - 2 mpg but that's worth it

I worked in the fire/ems field. All the ambulances, like 95% on the road are ford. Maybe they are the cheapest no idea. But they get the shit run out of them.
If its not your personal ride most people beat the hell out of company owned vehicles.

F150 - I have had four of them, short of the 99 which was the ear of rotting exhaust manifolds. Mine have all had minor issues. I never keep a vehicle past 200k as well.
My 21 ranger with the eco boost has been a pretty good little truck.

2022 2.7 w/approximately 36,500 miles on it now. Not a daily driver. Been through two turbos already and now have a few puddles of gear oil on my garage floor due to a shitty pinion seal and flange that need to be replaced. Built FORD tough!

2020 with 3.5. Almost 90K on it and its been flawless.

I put a 2 inch leveling kit and bigger 10 plys on it. It doesnt get great mileage but still pulls boat trailer or SxS or a 7 foot enclosed trailer like a dream. I didn't buy it for great gas mileage, it's for pulling and running gravel roads and hauling me and the dog all over the country to kill things and then haul them home.

The tow package has the bigger gearing and a 36 gallon tank. I'd recommend.

The 36 gal tank is not a part of the tow pkg. It’s an option. But starting in ‘25 it will be std. on all F150’s.
I just picked up s 21 with a 5.0, Im very happy with it having had a 13 & a 16, both with 5.0’s. The 5.0 with the 10 sp trans is a lot better on gas than the 6 sp. also.

Thanks for the info. I have thought about just doing a drain and fill like you're suggesting on the transmission. Wait at least to 100K+ on filter. I doubt I'll put 150k on mine, so I might not ever change the filter. You're saying change trans fluid while on ramps. Don't worry about level? I do run up on blocks when I change oil.
