they work marginal at best. Single digit decibeles decrease at most. Most effective at idle

I added a Kolpin Stealth Exhaust second muffler to my 2012 RZR 800 right after I bought it used in 2014. It quieted the machine down 7 dB at 3,000 RPM measured up around my ear while sitting in the driver''s seat. This allows me to talk to a passenger versus stock exhaust...yelling and never being heard without stopping. I installed the stock spark arrester into the exhaust discharge from the Kolpin Stealth muffler...fit perfectly. Best $140 add-on for my RZR by far and it is still working fine after 5 years. The dB was measured with the SPLnFFT app on my iPhone, which showed excellent correlation with a $2,000 sound meter we had where I worked. I did not notice any power decrease with the addition of the second muffler, however I am not a guy that rips, does jumps, doughnuts and drag races with it.

And 7 bB is a lot...the dB scale is logarithmic, not linear, meaning the perceived loudness to the ear was reduced hugely.

I would recommend trying one, or something similar to quiet down a loud machine. Good luck!

I think they could be beneficial, but I can count on one hand the amount of times that I would have been better off with a UTV.

In the areas I hunt it seems most people use them so they can drive over berms and around gates on closed roads so I have a strong disdain for them . Even people I know that have them that wont normally drive down closed roads with them have no issue going around gates with them to retrieve game.
This year I was glassing some bucks in an area completely closed off and watched a UTV drive over a berm and go right through the middle of the area pushing all the bucks out.

5 miles from the road and across a river, not feasible for 2 people not on UTV/ATVs.

Just a note from my experience. I had an ATV and went to a SXS so the wife and I could recreational ride with the dog in back. From a straight hunting aspect I liked the ATV better. If you didn’t plan on a passenger I would consider an ATV over a SXS. I am thinking of getting another ATV for when I’m hunting alone and don’t want to beat up my truck.

7 bd on one of the loudest UTV’s on the market. You have no place to go but down and Still not even close to HD10, Mule Pro FXT, ranger 1000, or Pioneer stock levels, which is still twice my 6.7 Diesel.... which is sad.

My silenced Polaris RZR is no louder to my ear...actually quieter to the ear...than my stock Yamaha 550 Grizzly ATV. I get favorable comments from hunting partners about how quiet the RZR is as well. In stock form it was obnoxiously loud.

I agree with you, my F350 6.7 liter diesel is quiet for a diesel, but still significantly louder than my F150 5.0 liter when cruising at highway speeds and listening to the radio. But I could not take either truck where I hunt moose and caribou in northern BC, nor could I backpack in and carry out a critter.

I don’t have the answer for you but I being around loud equipment every day for work .
After leaving the car at the parking lot hearing a UTV or ATV running is the last thing I wanna hear.

You can get a heater and AC in a UTV.

yep I have a buddy who drives his ranger 1000 around town year round. Has the humming bird graph wired right in it for ice fishing. Will run 65 down the highway no problem. Nice to get off work and be ice fishing in under 10 minutes.

I used to be the ultimate critic of the UTV craze. I disliked them for many reasons and still call them cockroaches because they seem to infest every back country road.....
They are still cockroaches. My wife and I both own atv's but they aren't used for hunting deer or elk, that is why we have boots.

There are exceptions, but overall they are a scourge on the resource and experience..

Quick question for you. Do you think the pioneer would be a compromise for the atv/sxs? I am trying to make this decision right now but can only buy one for quite a few years...Thanks for posting!

I think that 500 Pioneer would be a good middle ground. I looked at one but my wife wanted bucket seats. To be honest I still have not ruled out one as my hunting option. Its small enough to fit in the back of my truck for easy transport which is one of the advantages of an atv over a bigger sxs that I liked. I think any 50" or smaller machine you can haul without a trailer would be good really. You can put a good sized bed on the pioneer too to hold cargo.

So when you hunt you don’t drive to a starting point at all? Guess this just doesn’t make sense we all have to travel to a starting point. Now if you want to walk the 4x4 trail or destroy your vehicle that is fine but don’t be upset when atv’s drive by. My boots still get plenty of use.

Well you just need to plan better and stay far away from roads and atv trails. Can’t complain if you decide to hike where they can legally be.

That’s what I was thinking. Are those the reasons why you are looking at an atv?

Why is everyone concerned with road hunting...everyone on Rokslide packs in 57 miles anyway and would never consider shooting an animal unless they were at least that far away from a road or trail or civilization. That said everyone should be happy ATVs are out there because it keeps them on the road where real backcountry people are not.

Yes, the smaller machine makes everything easier. Especially if you can remove the need for a trailer. An ATV is also a little more maneuverable than a 60+” SXS and easier to get unstuck.

You think just like me. I hate using a four wheeler but I also hate beating the snot out of my pickup and myself. A four wheeler just makes it easier and quicker to get the to the trailhead.
