Alabama is not good enough this year to be in the playoffs. Probably need to get used to it. NIL has changed the game.
Winning against LSU, Mizzou, and SC is no great feat this season. Losing to Vandy and a bad OK team is huge though. That probably kept them out more than a win against UGA would have got them in.
Yeah. Can you with a straight face say that bama would be down 28-0 in first half to a decent penn state team?

Good wins > bad losses. Bama only has themselves to blame for that OU loss but I gotta think they’d be a better option than SMU.

Looks like Boise State will be playing the boys in white.

Been watching the SMU-PSU game and I like our chances against PSU better. But I feel badly for Jennings, the SMU quarterback. He had an awful first half that essentially doomed his team. All told, SMU's defense played quite well.

I don't like the portal being open until after the national championship game. Marshall got hosed.

I understand the sentiment, the reality is that making the playoff may become a huge incentive for teams, most schools will start their new semester before the national championship which means that anybody that wants to transfer will have to miss spring football at their new school if their team is in the playoff and they want to stay for the playoff. Teams are going to hold onto more talent just by virtue of being in the playoff. I don’t know the answer except to have 1 portal period in the summer only in which case nobody will have the opportunity to compete for position battles in the spring. Maybe that isn’t the worst thing and guys will have to take more factors into consideration before transferring. Of course I don’t think that will happen either as the NCAA seems to be headed the other way on transfers

As shown in last two games,
if you’re looking at playoffs, it is a terrible business decision to take an untested 2 loss team over a 3 loss sec team. Is it fair? No. Do we want watch competitive games ? Yes.
Am I an SEC fan? Yes.
if conference schedules were flipped/ Indiana and SMU wouldn’t be .500 and South Carolina / ole miss or even Alabama don’t lose two games all year

Go Vandy.

I think that's a step far but dont doubt SC and Ole Miss in addition to Bama would have been more competitive than SMU. Indiana put up a solid season, couldn't beat top level teams but put away everyone else. I cant look at bama's schedule and see 7 games Indiana would be expected to lose this year.

Gumps lost to Vanderbilt. (yes, Vanderbilt)
They lost to the worst OU team in decades.
What if that Bama team showed up in the cold weather? Would you still be living in the bygone Saban era?
secsecsec is a tired rallying cry.
NIL and portal have changed everything. No more days of only Bama paying players.

If you are looking at playoffs it's stupid to include 2 and 3 loss teams. Great, now we get to pontificate on who the actual best worst team in the playoffs is.
