Forget the Mountain House. The stuff tastes like crap, thats why nobody can choke down more than a couple a trip, and it just gives you mud-butt anyway.
Make your own meals, you'll tend to eat more if you're eating something you actually like.
I tend to pack about 24 oz. (around 3,000 cal) per day of dried and packaged(bars etc.) food during warmer trips. You'll need more calories if its cold.
