FNG Northern Colorado

Thanks! I'm starting from scratch so looking to pick up most gear items from the classified section. First order of business is a pack and good layers to wear

What season? Also I would push you towards, good boots & socks, then some kind of optics, then a shooting iron and scope, then pack, lastly worry about clothes you can be comfortably outfitted from a thrift store often with a little looking

As the self-appointed chairman of the welcoming committee, it is my privilege to extend a laurel, and hearty handshake (virtual, of course) to our new CO member.

2nd rifle, so the last week of October. I have some goretex boots but all my outdoor gear is very swishy and loud. What is better, good binoculars or a good spotting scope?

Drew my first tag ever this year, here to soak up the knowledge and find some good deals!
Biggest thing will be staying warm depends on how you’ll hunt if you’re gonna do more glassing I might bundle up more but either way I’d recommend trying to find some First Lite kiln or furnace baselayer but really any mid to heavy merino base will do Sitka, kuiu, SG,etc… don’t worry about finding the perfect camo or even any camo at all it matters much less then you’d think (for rifle). Make sure you layer well in the morning especially in Colorado it will be fairly cold but that same day you’ll be cooking I’ve had a couple mornings in 4th season at below 0 just for it to get into the 40’s a few hours later, quick removable layers are a life saver. Good luck and no matter what don’t let anything stop you from getting out there!

Good binos first, they are what you are looking through 95% of the time, I’ve hunted most of Co without a spotting scope, spotters are great for confirming age class or counting inches, or spotting from miles and miles away but a solid 10x42 will do everything you need. I wouldn’t worry too much about noisy clothing on a rifle hunt, pay more attention to wind than anything most animals will tolerate hearing and seeing you, they will never tolerate smelling you
