Fmj 4mm vs gold tip pierce platinum

For western hunting with a single pin sight do you guys think it would be beneficial to go with the lighter gold tips over the fmj?
I'm not a speed demon but shooting 5mm fmj's at 280fps.
This is my first year with a single pin slider as well.

Depends on the arrow, if i'm using a D6 system the regular Rage Hypo's, Killzone and Slick Trick Standards. If I can use a regular thread broadhead, then I'll use the Hypo +P, Killzone or Slick Tricks again from a Pro Defiant 34, 29" draw 70#.

I'd go with the Gold Tips. If you're targeting a certain arrow weight you could go up a spine in the GT's and use a heavier head or add weights to them. Same weight arrow between the two and the GT would have higher FOC and no aluminum to worry about bending.

The only reason I am skeptical w/the Pierce Platinums, is the outsert. Does me no good if I can't get my broadheads to spin 100% perfect.

Get some Deep Six inserts and use them in the Pierce Platinum's if that's your only issue.

If you shoot bag targets I wouldn't use the Pierce. The ballistic collar didn't hold up for me when shooting bags.

Better durability than the FMJ Injexions. My experience with the Pierce hasn't been a good one so I personally wouldn't consider them.

I purchased a half-dozen Pierce Platinum 300's. Shooting them out of a Defiant 34 with 29.5" draw at 72 lbs, and couldn't get them to tune better than about a 1.5" tear through paper with 100g and 125g field points. Easton 340's shoot bullet holes all day, even through both charts suggest 300 spline is what I should be shooting.

Long and short of it is I got a half dozen Pierce Plats I'd sell you for cheap. =P

I shot the Platinum Pierce out of my Carbon Defiant Turbo for the past year. Penetration and speed is insane. I would blow through a bag at 50 yards, but these have some major durability issues. Out of the dozen I bought half of them broke. Ground hits would cause them just snap and not even rocks (I live in Texas). I even hit the plastic leg of a Glendale buck and it broke off. I called Gold Tip and they had excellent customer service and sent me 6 new ones, no questions asked. I broke 2 more of those and gave up. Went to 4 FMJs and have been extremely satisfied. They don't get the same penetration, but I actually found them to be more accurate downrange when shooting distances beyond 50yds.

I had the exact same thing happen with the Axis 340s. They would snap if they touched anything. Switched to the regular GT Kinetics w/ Ballistic Collars and they have much better durability. I'm starting to think with all the differing opinions that QC may be lacking with Easton and Gold Tip. I contacted Easton about my issues and I just got the cold shoulder.

Crazy you say that I got a half dozen kinetic pierces at cabelas and they seem way more durable than the platinum pierce and didn't have any issues with those. I must had got a bad batch of platnuims. Still totally gunshy now and wouldn't trust it hunting. I'm sticking with the FMJ 4mms. Just sucks having to buy all new brodheads.
